Home Remedies to Seal Split Ends

Hair Tips, Split Ends

Split ends can make your hair hard to manage, and appear frizzy, dry, and messy. Getting your hair trimmed by a hairstylist will remove split ends completely. You should get regular haircuts every 6 to 9 weeks, depending upon how fast your hair grows. If you do not want to get your hair trimmed, there are some remedies you can do at home to help seal split ends and make your hair healthy again. Try these home remedies to seal split ends.

Use a Hair Mask

One way to help seal split ends is by using a hair mask on your hair. You can easily make this hair mask using ingredients you have on hand in your home. Place some olive oil in a bowl and warm it in your microwave. Place approximately one teaspoon of mayonnaise into the olive oil and mix well. You can also mash up a ripe avocado and place it into the olive oil mix it well. Add some plain yogurt, mashed up bananas, or honey into the mixture and mix it will. Gently massage the mixture into your hair directly onto the split ends. Wrap a warm towel onto your head and leave it on for approximately 10 minutes to allow the hair mask to work itself into your hair. Remove the towel and wash your hair as you normally would. You can do this once every two weeks to help repair the split ends.

Use Less Heat

Allow your hair to air dry, if possible. If you do need to use a hair dryer, make sure it is on a cool setting. Heat will make the split ends worsen and cause your hair to become frizzy. Many people will allow their hair to dry until it is just damp and then use a hair dryer to dry it. If you do not need to wash your hair every single day, try washing it every other day to limit the use of hair dryers and other heating appliances. Make sure you also moisturize your hair when you wash it. Never use a flat iron on your hair unless you absolutely have to. If you do use a flat iron, spray your hair first with a heating spray to protect your hair from the heat.
