Home Remedies for a Double Chin

Double Chin

There can be a few possible contributing factors to having a double chin. Most often it is due to excess weight, but quite often it simply be a hereditary trait. While there are surgical procedures that can help eliminate a double chin, in many cases, you might find it is not necessary. Here are a few home remedies for a double chin that you can try before considering anything as elaborate as surgery.

Change of Diet

If the cause of your double chin can be attributed to extra weight or extra weight gain a change of diet can be the most effective cure. Alter your diet to include high fiber and low calories. Start eating a lot more fruits and vegetables.

Chew Sugarless Gum

This is an effortless way to exercise your jaw muscles all day long without having to give it any thought. An added benefit to chewing sugarless gum is healthier teeth and gums.

Sit up straighter and Watch your posture.

Sitting up straight can make an amazing difference in the appearance of a double chin. Keep your shoulders back and head help up straight.

Lower Jaw Exercise

While this exercise may have you looking like a marionette, it is very effective. Put your lower lip over your bottom teeth using your lips and jaw muscles. Now open your mouth as wide as possible and jut your jaw out. Open and close your mouth about 10 times. You should feel the neck and jaw muscles being worked immediately. Do a set of ten about 4 or 5 times a day.

Tap Away

Close your mouth and gently, yet firmly, tap the skin under your neck with the back of your hand. This will also help tighten the muscles from the outside. Do for a set of 10. Repeat 4 or 5 times a day.

Resistance Exercise

This is another quick exercise you should do 4 or 5 times a day and all it requires is simple resistance. Simply place your palm on your forehead and try to push your head forward using your neck and jaw muscles while using your hand to resist. Then place your hand on the back of your head and try to push your head back. You should feel the muscles in your neck and jaw being effected immediately.

Chair Exercise

Another great exercise and home remedy for a double chin is the chair exercise. Sit on a chair (preferably one with no arms) with your feet on the floor. Use both arms to grab each side of the chair. Tilt your head back as far as you can comfortably and look at the ceiling. Now open and close your mouth. Again you should feel the proper muscles being worked immediately. Another exercise you should do a few times a day.

Make Your Own Chin Wrap

You might have already heard of body wraps. Luckily you can use the same type of treatment for the excess fat under your chin as well. Go online and find a homemade mineral wrap recipe. You can either apply the mineral oils with a cotton ball under your chin and wrap with plastic wrap covered with a warm towel, of you can dip an ace bandage into the mixture and wrap snugly under your chin for at least 45 minutes. While these kind of wraps will not make a drastic difference, they will show an immediate improvement to the area.
