Little known facts

Anise or Aniseed is a flowering plant most native to the Mediterranean and Asia. This herbaceous annual plant can grow to about 1 meter tall, the leaves at the base can grow to about 2 to 5 centimeter long, and the concentrations of flowers can grow to about 3 millimeters in diameter.

The plant can be made into a liquid scent similar to that of licorice. Some people actually put this smell on the ends of their fishing rods to attract fish. Some people use this smell to lure prey when they hunt.

Hypocrites treated coughs with Anise.

Years later, a Roman scholar revealed that he could eliminate bad breath by chewing some Anise.

Romans also flavored cakes with Anise. The herb was tasty while helping to prevent indigestion. It’s possible that this technique founded the traditional wedding cake we know today.

People use the volatile oil made from this plant to make the Italian cookie, pizzelles.

Aniseed is also used to make the Mexican drink, champurrado. In case you don’t know, this drink is a lot like hot chocolate.

Today, we still use Anise for culinary purposes as well as medicinal. Strangely enough, you can find Anise in candy, you can find it in the bakery, and you can find the herb in cough medicine.

Anise is one of the few herbs that can help improve the taste of herbal formulas.

True effects

I recently proved that Roman scholar right. It was a few hours after I took Anise, I asked my mother to smell my breath, and she assured me that it smelled just fine. There was no trace of bad breath for at least 3 more hours.

For women, among many other glands in the body, Anise can help stimulate the glands that control estrogen levels.

Anise can break down mucus blockage; thereby, relieving the digestive system. This helps in preventing fermentation and gases to develop in your guts.

Anise can stimulate cells in varies parts of the body, including the heart and brain.

While the oil of Anise may be volatile, it has proven to be a helpful treatment for bronchitis and asthma. Also, people suffering from emphysema can rest easy. This simple herb is supposed to help.

Disorders, irritations, ailments, and bodily systems treated by Anise

Appetite stimulant – This should be self-explanatory

In short, Anise can curb your appetite so you don’t eat as much.

Asthma – This should be self-explanatory. But in case it isn’t, in case you don’t know what it is exactly, I’ll tell you. Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system that constricts a person’s airway. Common symptoms of asthma are wheezing, and coughing.

Breath sweetener or Halitosis

Bronchitis – To explain bronchitis, you’ll have to know what the bronchus or bronchi are. The broncus is one of two tree-branch-like pipes (trachea) that are used to transfer air to and from the lungs. Bronchitis is simply an inflammation of mucous membranes in those pipes.

Cholera – An acute infectious and deadly disease that causes severe diarrhea, vomiting, cramps and a great loss of fluids.

Colds

Colic – A spasmatic pain that can attack certain areas of the body; such as, the intestines, the gallbladder, and urinary tract. There are three to four different kinds; baby colic, renal colic, horse colic, and biliary colic.

Convulsions – This should be self-explanatory. In case you don’t know what it is, let me tell you. Convulsions are involuntary contractions of the muscles or a series of contractions in which your body is jerking.

Coughs

Dysmenorrhea – The ladies should know what this is. But in case no one does know what dysmenorrhea is, let me explain. Dysmenorrea is painful menstrual periods caused by a functional disturbance or say, something like tumor or an infection.

Emphysema – This is when you have air in tissues and cavities where it shouldn’t be. This is usually categorized as a condition of the lungs, like pulmonary emphysema.

Epilepsy – A chronic neurological disease in which a person can lose consciousness, and seize in which there is violent convulsions.

Gallbladder – Located under the liver, this pear-shaped organ is essential for storing bile. But, every so often this important organ can be host to any number of disorders or diseases. You can have an hourglass condition in which your gallbladder is divided into two functioning halves. You also have a strawberry gallbladder condition in which the organ’s mucosa is red, and dotted with cholesterol.

Gas

Indigestion – This should be self-explanatory.

Anise should help relieve your indigestion.

Insomnia – Simply put, if for whatever reason you just can’t fall asleep or stay asleep, you’re suffering from insomnia.

Mucus – A slippery, viscous concentration of musin, cells, salts and water found in mucous membranes. This protects and moistens the membrane.

My guess is that Anise will serve to create this mucus.

Nervousness

Pneumonia – This is a dangerous bug, caused by an inflammation of the lungs. This inflammation can be caused by any number of things, including viruses and bacteria. You can even get pneumonia by inhaling certain poisonous gases. Not that I’d ever advise you to inhale said gases.

Postpartum

Whooping cough – Also called, Pertussis, whooping cough is when you’ve got a severely hacking cough and you let out a “whoop” when you take another breath.

Herbal First Aide

No home should be without this recipe for an herbal first aide kit.

You must have Aloe Vera. The gel from the plant’s leaves will help in relieving pain, and healing burns and cuts. Believe me, I know this works.

Also, you should have Arnica. Another healing gel that will take the blue out of bruises.

Take Calendula. When taken as a tea, this dry leaf will help clean cuts.

For indigestion, anxiety and insomnia, take some Chamomile in tea form.

You should most definitely take Echinachea if you want to treat the flu or the common cold.

Gingerroot is great for relaxing the stomach, killing nausea, and putting an end to motion sickness.

Keep a bottle of Witch Hazel handy to stop infections, and heal minor burns and rashes.
