Gunnar Hanson Returns to ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D’

Lionsgate released a new photograph from their upcoming horror movie, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D,” and it is none other than Gunnar Hanson sitting in a chair with a big gun in his hand. For those who don’t recognize his name, Hanson played Leatherface, the chainsaw wielding serial killer in the first “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie 38 years ago.

This isn’t the first time an actor who played a classic horror monster showed up back in a later movie, paying homage to the role that made them a star.

Robert Englund

Most of the world knows Robert Englund from his breakout role as a child murderer burned alive who came back to haunt people in their dreams. Freddy Krueger is a horror legend, and Englund played him eight times. It was his seventh movie where Wes Craven helped create the meta-horror genre where the movies looked at themselves as movies. Englund played himself in the movie, which has original star Heather Lagenkamp find out that the Freddy from the movies is trying to come into the real world. Englund is a standout as himself, as well as the menacing Freddy.

Kane Hodder

There have been a number of men who played Jason Voorhees in the “Friday the 13th” movie franchise, but no one gave themselves over the role as much as Kane Hodder. He practically lived the role and won his fans over to a level where they protested when Ronny Yu replaced him with someone else for “Freddy vs. Jason.” However, a young director named Adam Green still had faith in Hodder and cast him to play his new slasher killer, Victor Crowley, in “Hatchet.” Hodder also appeared in a cameo role in “Behind the Mask,” a loving meta-horror slasher film from 2006.

Tony Todd

Adam Green also cast Robert Englund in a cameo role in “Hatchet,” as well as Tony Todd as the Reverend Zombie. It was a great appearance by the man who portrayed the evil Candyman so perfectly. Of course, Todd is a horror veteran, and also brought his familiar appearance to the “Final Destination” movie franchise as Bludworth, a man who might be the devil.
