Gift Ideas for the Wizard of Oz Collector

Tin Man, Wicked Witch, Wizard of Oz

There aren’t many people who haven’t seen the classic, The Wizard of Oz. It’s hard to believe that this movie is from 1939 as it still captivates and intrigues adults and children alike. There are many Wizard of Oz collectors who would LOVE getting a Wizard of Oz gift. With so many Wizard of Oz products on the market, it can get overwhelming to know where to start. To make it a little easier on you, I’ve put together a list of the top ten gifts for the Wizard of Oz collector.

Wizard of Oz DVD: There are a few DVD editions of the Wizard of Oz for sale but the one that would make the best gift is the The Wizard of Oz Three-Disc Collector’s Edition. You can buy it at Amazon for $36.77 and get free shipping. The discs are packed full of extras, like The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz: The Making of a Movie Classic, Memories of Oz and much more.

License Plate Frame: What better way for a fan to show that they adore the Wizard of Oz then by displaying a license plate frame with one of their favorite quotes from the movie? You can buy one that says “Toto I Don’t Think We’re In Kansas Anymore,” or another that displays “Life’s A Witch And So I Am.” Depending on where you buy it, you can get a frame for under ten dollars.

Collectible Figurines: There are several collectible figurines that would make a great gift but I think that the Wizard of Oz Follow the Yellow Brick Road Village would be a good choice. It’s made of porcelain and carefully painted by hand. It features Glinda the good witch, Dorothy & Toto with three munchkins. It’s 9 x 5.5 x 5 inches and costs $44.95.

Door Stops: This is one of my favorite gift ideas because I don’t think many people would expect that you’d get them a Wizard of Oz doorstop as a Christmas present. You can pick one of Toto, the Tin Man, the Wicked Witch, or a door stop of the ruby slippers on poppies. Some of them are made out of heavy resin & some out of solid heavy pewter so they’re very sturdy. Prices range from $14.98 to $19.95.

Wind Chimes: Wind Chimes are great for displaying outside and listening to as the breeze blows them OR for displaying as a decoration in your home. You can choose to buy one, or four wind chimes, that feature one cast member of the Wizard of Oz and has a rainbow above their heads. These cost around $20.00 each.

Picture Frame: The Wizard of Oz picture frame features the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, Dorothy and the Tin Man at the top of the frame. The frame is square & the edges look like the yellow brick road. You put your picture in the middle and the bottom says: “Oh, You’re the best friends anyone ever had!” If your best friend is the Wizard of Oz lover, you could put a picture of the two of you in it, to let your friend know how much they mean to you. It retails for $23.95.

Wizard of Oz Dorothy Premier Edition Cookie Jar: This would make a terrific gift and to give it a more personal touch, why not bake some cookies and put it inside? Any fan would adore displaying this in their kitchen. The cookie jar is of Dorothy holding ToTo and you remove her head to get inside. This is a limited edition item and only 2400 are being made which would make it even more special to give as a gift. You can by one for around $90, depending on where you purchase it.

Barbies: Over the years, there have been several Wizard of Oz Barbies. You can’t find them in a store anymore but places like eBay, can be a valuable resource for finding items that are no longer made. They have Barbie dressed as Dorothy, Glinda and the Wicked Witch and Ken clothed as the Tinman, Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow. Prices vary.

Mousepad: What could be better then surfing the world wide web, then by having your mouse rest on a Wizard of Oz mouse pad? You can choose from several different ones online but as a gift, I’d recommend getting the mousepad that features Dorothy, Tinman, Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow. This costs around ten dollars.

Ornaments: Hallmark has made several Wizard Of Oz ornaments that have quickly become collectibles. Hallmark usually puts out different Wizard of Oz ornaments every year. You can’t buy past ornaments from Hallmark, but you can buy them from eBay and other stores online. You can go to Hallmark’s website to see what Wizard of Oz ornaments they have for sale this year. The craftsmanship on these ornaments is very detailed and beautiful. Prices range from low to high, depending on which one you buy.

When your Wizard of Oz fan opens their gifts on Christmas, they’ll feel like they’ve gone “somewhere over the rainbow…. ”
