Fun Rainy Day Activities for Kids

Rainy Day Activities Kids, Rainy Day Fun

Summer days are ideal for fun in the sun, but what about those days when it rains? You need quick and easy activities on-hand to keep the kids busy. Traditional activities, like playing board games and watching movies, are always great for a rainy day, but there are some different things you can do with the kids on rainy days.

Save the day and have fun with your kids using some of the following ideas.

Fun Rainy Day Activities to Bust Boredom

Help your kids have a good time and tap into their creativity at the same time. Turn your room into an art house and gallery.

Choose a room, or allow kids to work in individual rooms, with different sizes and textures of paper to create works of art. Provide colored paper, markers, water soluble paints, glue, and other odds and ends through which your kids can explore their creative ideas.

Once everyone has a few pieces of art work prepared, hang them using a couple of small pieces of scotch tape down a hallway or in the room assigned to be the “art gallery.

Turn a day of art and creative exploration into a day of learning by allowing kids to buy and sell art. You could even have an auction. The penny is sufficient to provide the standard in this rainy day economy. It’s more fun if adults, like parents, or neighbors participate in art sells or auctions.

Rainy Day Fun for Kids in the Kitchen

It takes very little for kids to have a good time in the kitchen. Cooking give kids the opportunity to be creative and get their hands into something. Fun cooking ideas for the kids include making pizza, making cookies, and seasoning to lunch or dinner.

Stock up the cabinets and fridge ahead of time. You can always use the ingredients whether it rains or not. Allow the kids to pick some of their favorite pizza toppings or even experiment with new toppings (under your guidance, of course).

Many kids today have never eaten a cookie made from scratch. Teach them your favorite cookie recipe. If you don’t have the patience or the skills to make homemade cookies with the kids, then buy rolls of cookie dough or cookie squares and let kids experiment using cookie cutters or molding their own edible creation.

Younger kids will enjoy simply playing with pots, pans, and spoons in the kitchen.

Rainy Day Activities for the Kids

This rainy day kids’ activity is fun and easy. It can also be time consuming on a long day, but the best thing of all is that your kids will have the opportunity to create and play a game that they can keep and use over and over.

Find an old Monopoly board. If you don’t have one pick up a game board at a yard sale or thrift store. The easiest game to recreate is a Monopoly style game. Help your children pick a theme and create spaces associated with the theme.

For example, a historic board game could have different historic sites placed around the board in chronological order. Simpler games could be based on a favorite TV show, from Sesame Street to American Idol. Children then choose characters or scenes related to the show to create spaces and playing pieces.

Making your own game can be as simple or complex as you would like to make it. This is an excellent way to enjoy a rainy day. Older kids can implement research into their game plans.
