Free Baby Girl Crochet Pattern for a Flower Cocoon Set

I have made this wonderful cocoon set for a couple of my friends using different colors depending on their personality and the personality of their little newcomer. This is a great gift that all new moms would love.

Materials:
Red Heart classic yarn – Blue, Pink, and Yellow
Size of Hook: I Hook
Size: 0-9 Months
Start: Ch. 62 with blue yarn.

Abbreviations:
Ch. – Chain
Dc – Double crochet
Hdc – Half Double crochet
Sc – Single stitch
Sk – Skip a stitch
Sl – Slip stitch
Spc – Space
Tr – Treble stitch

Directions:

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd Ch. from hook and in each Ch. across.

Row 2: Ch. 1, turn, Sc in back loops in every stitch, but leave the last 5 stitches unworked.

Row 3: Sc in back loop of each stitch across.

Row 4: Ch. 1, Sc in back loop of each stitch across, Sc in back loop of 5 skipped Sc in row 3.

Row 5: Sc in back loop of each St. across.

Row 6 – 42: repeat rows 2-5. Fasten off.

Flower:

Start: Chain 2, leaving 12″ beginning tail. This is to have enough yarn to weave ends.

Tip: Pattern is worked in the round.

Row 1: 6 Sc in second stitch from hook.

Row 2: Working in back loops only, 2 Sc in each stitch around (12 Sc).

Row 3: Working in back loops of Row 2, Sl stitch in next stitch, Ch. 10, Sl stitch in same stitch, repeat around until you have 12 large petals.

Row 4: Working in front loops of Row 2, Sl stitch in next stitch, Ch. 8, Sl stitch in same stitch, repeat around until you have 12 medium petals.

Row 5: Working in front loops of Row 1, Sl stitch in next stitch, Ch. 6, Sl stitch in same stitch, repeat around until you have 6 small petals.

Weave ends together.

Edging:

Start: Single in each stitch around top all the way around.

Round 2: Ch. 1, Sc in same stitch as joining, Sc in next 2 Sc, *sc2tog, Sc in next 3 Sc; repeat from * around, joining with a Sl stitch in first sc.

Round 3: Ch. 1, turn, 2 Sc in back loop of same stitch as joining, Sc in back loop of each stitch around. Join with a Sl stitch in first sc. Fasten off.

Round 4: With wrong side facing, joining next color with Sl stitch in first sc. Ch. 1, Sc in same stitch as joining. Sc in each remaining Sc around. Join with a Sl St. Fasten off.

Round 5: With wrong side facing and I hook, join next color with a Sl stitch in first Sc, Ch. 1, Sc in same stitch as joining, Sc in next sc. *small shell in next Sc** Sc in next 3 Sc, repeat from * around.

Round 6: Ch. 1, Sc in same stitch as joining. *skip next Sc, working next shell, Sl stitch in first Sc, 2 Sc in next Ch. 3 space (Sc, DC) in next d, (DC, Sc) in next dc. 2 Sc in next Ch. 3 space, Sl stitch in last Sc; skip next Sc** Sc in next Sc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at *(* join with a Sl stitch in first St.) Fasten off.

Leaves: With G hook. Sc in 2nd Ch. from hook, Sc in next Ch., DC in next 2 chains, dc in next 2 chains, Tr in next Ch., dc in next 2 chains, DC in next 2 chains, Sc in next 2 chains, 3 Sc in last Ch. Working in free loops on opposite side of chains, repeat from beginning. Hat:

Row 1: Sc in 2nd Ch. from hook and in each stitch across (22).

Row 2: Ch. 1, turn. Sc in back loop of first 18 Sc, leaving the last 3 Sc unworked.

Row 3: Ch. 1, turn. Sc in the back loops of each Sc across and continue.

Row 4: Ch. 1. Sc in back loop of each Sc across, Sc in back loop of 3 skipped Sc 3 rows.

Row 5: Ch. 1. Sc in back loop of each Sc across.

Rows 6 – 51: Repeat rows 2-5.

Hat edging:

Row 1: Ch. 1 work on edge of rows in front of hat, Sc in edge of each row across.

Row 2: With right side facing and I hook, join with next color. Ch. 1Sc in same stitch as joining, Sc in each remaining Sc across.

Row 3: Sc in back loop of each Sc across. Fasten off.

Row 4: With wrong side and F hook, join with next color and Sl stitch in first Sc, Ch. 1, Sc in same stitch as joining *large shell in next Sc, Sc in next 3sc; repeat from * across. Fasten off.
