Folger’s Gourmet Vanilla Biscotti – Savor the Fragrance, Not the Taste

Biscotti, Fragrances, Vanilla

When I decided to review Folgers new gourmet coffee, Vanilla Biscotti, I wanted to make sure that my taste buds were not going to be the only judges on the panel. After all, I am quite biased towards a Folgers cup of coffee. So, I wanted to be sure that there were three tasters on board. I set about recruiting these coffee drinkers with care, not abandon. So the review was written with credibility.

Taster 2 is an office worker in a Midwestern town. She is at work at 6am each morning and leaves at 4 pm. Her coffee intake must propel her through her workday. She has no time for bad coffee.

Taster 3 is a supervisor in an office and also works a day shift. Her lifestyle is busy and she does not take kindly to fools. So, her coffee drinking is purposeful and gives her a steady caffeine jolt as she flies through her day.

I am Taster 1. I am a caretaker of a three year old little boy. I am also in school part time and work as a freelance writer. My day begins at 5 am and does not end until 11pm. Coffee is as much a part of my day as the oxygen I breathe.

The fragrance of Folgers’s Vanilla Biscotti is enough to surround your home in an envelope of heaven. The first time, Taster 2 arrived at my home in the morning to pick up her sample she asked me if the coffee perking was the vanilla biscotti. Of course, I answered in the affirmative. Her eyes grew big and round and she smiled and said that this coffee could not help but be good.

Two hours later she called me from work and told me she was very disappointed. She stated that the coffee was very bitter and the only way she could even choke it down was by putting a lot of sugar and cream in the cup.

Taster 3 stated that she liked the coffee. She liked the strong taste and also loved the aroma drifting through her home. But, she stated it would be a coffee for only occasional drinking – very occasional. For some reason, I got the impression that she really wasn’t that impressed but was saying what she thought I wanted to hear.

Now we come to Taster 1. The most clear-eyed of all the tasters. And especially clear-eyed after drinking several cups of the stuff. I had to mix in some International French Vanilla creamer with it to make it drinkable. But, after doing so, it was as good as any other coffee -even Maxwell House. Actually, after the creamer became a part of it–it was pretty good–good to the last drop!! Did I say that out loud?
