Everybody goes on spring break to the same locations. Students flock to Fort Lauderdale, Cancun, Miami, and the like to get away from school during spring break, but if someone wants an out-of-the-ordinary getaway, it may be harder to find. Spring break destinations don’t necessarily have to be all fun in the sun on the beach with thousands of other spring breakers; it can just be an adventure or a time for fun.

Wisconsin Dells, WI

Wisconsin Dells is known as the “waterpark capital of the world” and is often likened to a Midwest Las Vegas which makes it a great, unusual spring break destination. Many waterparks are indoors, guaranteeing that the Wisconsin weather will not hinder the stay of its guests. There are also numbers of shows throughout the city ranging from magicians to Beatles impersonators to dinner theatre. Most hotels are considered resorts and provide their own mini-waterparks and adventures within. One of the most popular resorts is Kalahari which basically contains a waterpark, amusement park, bowling alley, and laser tag all crammed in one building. This location is great because business is a lot slower during the spring and can allow for great deals and an amazing spring break getaway.

Chicago is not normally viewed as a party location but if looking for a unique spring break destination, this would be it. This is especially excellent for those students that have been studying in the South and could use a little Northern vacation. There may be no beach but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a good time. Austin, TX

When looking for the warm weather but not all the crowds and chaos, Austin provides a great alternative for the average spring break trip. Austin is home to hundreds of great activities that are open year-round and especially entertaining in the spring. They also have a number of different water-related activities that can easily compensate for the lack of extensive beaches. When looking for an unusual spring break trip that is an amazing party but not in one of the usual destinations, Ibiza makes a great alternative. Ibiza is known as the party island of the world and there is something going on every night which is perfect for spring break. See the coastline by renting a boat for the whole crew or see the depths by going scuba diving. For the extreme, Ibiza offers extensive mountain biking and other outdoor activities for any spring breaker.

Appalachian National Scenic Trail

This is so much more than a trail as this range of mountains, valleys, swamps, forests, and more ranges from Georgia to Maine and includes over two thousand miles of hiking paths. Hikers can go on a day trip through a trail or take it on fully for spring break and make an adventure of these scenic trails by hiking with friends for a week. Be sure to bring some warm clothes as the temperatures can change quickly on the trails. It may even be beneficial to stay on the Southern portions of the trail to ensure warmer weather while on this unusual spring break.
