Farmers Markets in Bentonville, Arkansas

There are two farmers markets for consumers in the Centerton – Bentonville area of Arkansas to visit. The Centerton Farmer’s Market is new for 2009. This will be located in City Park on Main Street in Centerton, Arkansas. The other farmer’s market is the Bentonville Farmer’s Market, located in the square in downtown Bentonville.

The Bentonville Farmer’s Market will begin on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 7am. The market will run from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm every Saturday until October 31, 2009. Shoppers can go green by purchasing fresh produce and baked goods from local farms. All baked goods will have health department certifications. The location is terrific. Downtown Bentonville has a lot of shops and David Peel Park is 1 block away for the kids. The Square has a free Wi-Fi spot as well. Benches are available to rest while shopping.

Fresh spring produce from local farms such as Jordan Family Produce will be available. Prices and quality are better than what you will find in local markets like Walmart and Harps. The produce is guaranteed to come from a local farm. You can go green by shopping at local farmers markets. Be super green and bring your own reusable shopping bag.

The Centerton Farmer’s Market is new and exciting. Located in City Park right next to City Hall it is easy to get to and many people can go green by walking there. Up to 36 vendors are expected, there may be overflow into the back parking lot if necessary. An assortment of locally grown produce, baked goods and handmade crafts will be available for purchase. The 2009 season starts Friday, April 10th and runs through the end of October. The market will be open from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm every Friday and Saturday.

Although vendors are still signing up, there is time to get your application in. Expect a huge turnout on the opening weekend. With several large subdivisions nearby the foot traffic should be enormous. City Park has a playground for the kids and picnic tables for everyone. Why buy produce at local farmer’s markets? The answer is simple. It is a way to go green, eat healthy and support the local community. All of the money spent at one of these markets goes directly back into the community. The produce is healthier as there is little time spent in travel. Fruits and veggies do not degrade as fast. Your produce purchases will be more nutritious and last longer. An easy way to be healthy and go green is to eat seasonally. Only items that have been grown in the local area will be for sale at the farmers markets. This puts one in touch with the seasons and many experts believe it is a healthier way to eat. It is certainly a greener way to eat.

When in the Northwest Arkansas area, especially if you are visiting Bentonville or Centerton, make sure you stop by and visit one of these local markets.
