Fall TV: CSI Miami- Dangerous Son

Ballistics, CSI Miami, David Caruso, Jorja, Jorja Fox

Dangerous Son

Since the first of the CSI’s I’ve been a die hard fan, so when it came to a toss up between watching the opening episode of this season’s CSI Miami or watching Journeyman, which had attracted my attention, the indecision lasted all of five minutes. I’m hoping I’ll be able to catch Journeyman on a re-run as the lead actor caught my attention whilst watching HBO’s Rome.

David Caruso returns as Horatio Caine in the action packed season opener, along with several other familiar faces and one or two new ones. Calleigh Duquesne, played by Emily Procter, the blonde bomb shell of a ballistics specialist is, of course, one of the returning cast members, much to the thrill of many a male viewer. Along with Alexx Woods and Ryan Wolfe.

It’s not just the plot lines and scripts, or the action or gadgets that carry CSI:Miami, but the sparks between the characters. Each one brings a different element to the show, and to the work they do. Proving once again that casting is just as important as script, setting and special effects when it comes to a successful, long running, prime time show.

With the murder of a probation officer all hell happily breaks loose on the show and we’re introduced to some new gadgets used by the probation system, including ankle monitor bracelets that not only track location but measure if the person wearing them has been drinking. A neat little trick as it’s done via measuring the ethanol that evaporates off the skin of the person wearing it. The device, which works much like the ankle bracelets worn by offenders under house arrest, is called SCRAM — Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor. It reads the blood alcohol content of the person wearing it every hour and reports those readings to law enforcement agencies. One of the things they tend to do in each CSI episode, regardless of the series, is introduce the watchers to one of the tricks or gadgets used by CSI and law enforcement.

But there’s a twist in this episode. Family has always been important to Horatio, that has been shown time and again with how he has stepped in to take care of his brothers illegitimate child, and also his brothers legitimate family. A devotion that has been the cause of him traveling all over the country and even into South America. But in this episode he’s introduced to a problem child who holds the key to a part of Horatio’s past. Kyle Harmon, played by Evan Ellingson, makes his CSI debut in this episode but I get the feeling we won’t be seeing the last of him, not with the connections he has to Horatio, or the way the script writers of CSI like to bring characters back into the show to keep an on going storyline through the season.

So just what will happen in the coming season?

Your guess is as good as mine. With the script writers willingness to kill off major characters, love interests and throw in close calls when the viewers least expect it, it’s only fair to say that in this show, anything goes. Only one thing is certain, by the time the season finale hits the fans will be on the edge of their seats.
