Fall 2012’s Color Trends to Shop

Color Trends, Fall 2012, Tangerine Tango

For the fall 2012, dark and moody colors are set to reign supreme in the fashion world. While many of the beautiful colors in this season’s trendy palette are vibrant and bold, there’s a definite muteness to the darker shades you’ll be spotting on the sidewalk. This season’s runways were full of midnight, plum, and black-and-blue outfit combinations to keep the fall of 2012 dark and brooding indeed.

Blue Is Everywhere

Some designers, like Jason Wu, showed off collections for fall 2012 that were filled with blues of every shade. If you’re banking on a color to shop for this fall, start with this super-trend in tops, bottoms, dresses, and accessories. Pantone offers the beautiful Olympian Blue as one of this season’s hot blue colors, so look for this to be popping up into storefront windows any day not (if not already). Of course, you don’t want to go head-to-toe in the same shade of blue, and you won’t have to either. For fall 2012, mix shades of blue (within reason) or try your hand at pairing blue with black for a real trend-savvy combination.

Wines & Reds Galore

A popular fall shade almost any year, wines and dark reds will prevail the fashion scene in 2012 as well. Dare to go bold with these gorgeous, deep colors of red. To make a real statement, consider pairing these deeper shades with versatile neutrals or metallic. Pantone suggests French Roast, a deep brown hue, as the “it” neutral of the year. Seek this out to keep some balance in your wardrobe for fall 2012.

A Balancing Act

As Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, says, this season’s “skillfully balanced palette has something for everyone.” And when you see the full range of colors on the list, you’ll see what she means. Look for lots of two-color themes in the fashion you’ll spot for fall 2012, blending a neutral with a bold tone. This effect makes prints and patterns really pop and will help you catch attention for sure.

The full Pantone palette includes the following colors: French Roast, Honey Gold, Pink Flambe, Tangerine Tango, Bright Chartreuse, Olympian Blue, Titanium, and Rhapsody. Pick your favorites and live this season to its fashion fullest!
