Fabric: Best Nightclub in London

Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Nightclubs

I have been to many nightclubs in London and out of all the clubs I have been to one club in particular was outstanding. The Fabric nightclub in London is one of the best nightclubs in London, and personally I think it is the best in the world that I have been to. Fabric is located by the Smithfield meet markets in downtown London, and first opened in 1999. It is somewhat inconspicuous during the day but on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the streets around Fabric are packed with people. The first time I went to fabric I was very surprised just by the size alone of the club as it can accommodate up to 1.800 people.

Fabric consists of three different dance floor rooms. Although from my experience I would say that the club is more like 4 rooms as there is one sort of long hallway between two of the dance floors with a bar with lots of bed like things to lay and sit on. Upon entering Fabric you will go down a large flight of stairs to the dance floors. The main dance floor is what is known as “bodysonic” because the floor is almost like a giant speaker. While standing on the dance floor in room 1 you can feel the whole floor moving to the bass of the music and vibrating your legs. Room 1 and 2 at Fabric are usually where the highlight artists of the night play. Room 2 is close to the same size as the first room and is my favorite room at Fabric because it is not as crowded as room 1 and has really nice lighting effects. The sound is great in room 2 and there’s a stage and raised platforms to dance on. Room 3 is a little out of the way and is a good spot to take a break from the other two dance floors. Room 3 is upstairs and is a series of small rooms and mini-dance floors.

Although the DJ’s at the Fabric nightclub aren’t as well known as the ones that play at other clubs such as The Ministry of Sound they are definitely very talented. Fabric also has introduced many albums showcasing the talent of many different DJ’s. The music at Fabric is mostly electronic, house, drum and bass, and some hip-hop. The music at Fabric is amazing, but sometimes it can be very strange at times. Luckily though on each dance floor there is usually a rotation between 4 to 6 different DJ’s so the music doesn’t get stale. The cover charge at Fabric depends on what night you go but is about cost about 20 pounds on average to get in. There dress code at Fabric is the standard dress code for night clubs so make sure not wear open toed shoes, shorts or bum like cloths or you won’t get in.

Some practical advice when going to and from the Fabric Nightclub

The closest tube station to the Fabric nightclub is Farringdon station, and the club is not very difficult to find unlike some other clubs such as Ministry of Sound. Once you get out of the tube station turn left and just keep following the road as it curves toward the right. After about 10 minutes of walking down the road it will dead end into another road. At that intersection turn right and you should be able to see Fabric. On a side note there should be a small thrift store and an ATM machine at this intersection should you need some more party supplies. I would recommend getting their early like 10 or 11pm.

The club is most popular at 12am-3am but if you get to Fabric at 12am there is a massive line so keep that in mind. Friday nights Fabric showcases underground DJ talent and Saturday night is known as “Soundclash” night as it is a mix of hip-hop, dubstep, and drum and bass. Friday or Saturday nights are good nights to go to Fabric and drinks are expensive so make sure you’re prepared ahead of time. There are numerous night bus stops around the club so and many taxis outside when you want to call it a night. Another option is to party until the London tube re-opens. The tube supposedly reopens at 5am but in my experience I found that it was more like 6am so you may just want to take a bus home instead. If you love music and clubbing than the Fabric night club in London is a must. If the music isn’t really your style be sure to check out other great nightclubs in London such as The Ministry of Sound.
