University of Wisconsin, Madison: Student Clubs and Organizations

When you are a college student, everyone is looking for at least one or two extracurricular activities or clubs to join to meet new people or to make your college years look better in the future for your career. If you are a student at the University of Madison in Madison, Wisconsin, you have plenty of them to choose from depending on what you want to be a part of.

If being active and running is your cup of tea, then the UW Running Club is for you. Every Wednesday they get together with the track team and they work out. They also have other days during the week where they get together and do some shorter distance running. Throughout the year they usually put on 2 races a 15k and a 5k one that you can participate in. They have other social events also that they do throughout the calendar year. It is a great way to stay in shape and meet new people. The yearly membership is only $10 plus you get a 10% discount at some local shoe and athletic stores so you can buy running clothes.

If you are more into karate and tae kwon do you can join the UW Tae Kwon Do Club. This is another fun way to meet people, stay in shape, and learn how to defend yourself. They get together and practice 2 times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Then on Sundays they have an open gym day where you can go and practice and workout. The dues for this club is $30 a year. Mainly that is for purchasing the essential equipment that you need. With this club you can go to college and earn your black belt in tae kwon do!

If math is more of your thing, then the UW Mathematics Club is for you. Here you can put your brain to the test and learn more about the history and different concepts of Math and compete in different Mathematic Competitions around the area. This club is newer but there are quite a few people in it already.

If you are interested in the world of Agriculture, then the UW Agricultural Business Club is the club for you. This club is for students the are looking into Agriculture as their career. It helps them meet others that have the same goal in life. This club helps you find the resources that you need to find jobs and internships in the area.. It also gives you more of an understanding about careers in this field. This club has a membership of $10 and meets every Wednesday night.

If you are into computers and computer entertainment then you need to check out the UW Badger Gaming Club. This club helps you understand more about computers and gives you information on jobs in the area and has guest speakers talk about their professional careers in the business. This club meets every Monday and there are no fees for joining.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, is a club for those that are interested in engineering careers. In this club you attend meetings, visit different local industries, and take tours of local plants. They also do fund raisers and social events. The fee for this club is free also. There is no set scheduled days for this club to meet.

If you are concerned or interested in the preserving and enhancing the global water environment, then you should join the Water Environment Federation. They work together to help educate water professionals and the public about problems. The club also helps the students find local jobs and earn scholarships for this field. The fees for this club are free and the meeting days are announced as the club meets. There are no set scheduled days.

The UW Zero Gravity Club is for those students who are interested in NASA and engineering. This club has meetings and guest speakers that talk to you about this field. You also get to propose new ideas and brainstorm them before you present them to someone in this career. You never know your idea may be the next one used at NASA. There is also no fee for this Club and meeting times are not scheduled as of yet.

The Chris Farley Foundation is for those students who would like to mentor and assist youths at making decisions in their life about alcohol and drugs use. This foundation encourages and helps the youths to get involved in other activities and lets them have open communication with others about those subjects. This is also free to join and has no set meeting days.

If you are concerned about third world countries and want to better rural villages, then check out the UW Village Health Project. They research and help raise funds for areas like these. It is a great way to help other unfortunate countries in the world. There are no fees and the schedule will be announced at a later date.

If you like cheese then join the Badger Cheese Club. Only in Wisconsin will you find a club like this! Here you get to enjoy and learn more about artisan cheese from all over the world. You also participate in cheese tasting events and social gatherings. The fee for this club is $5 per semester and they met on Sunday nights.

If bodybuilding is what you are in to, then join up with the UW Bodybuilders Club. This is for students that want to either compete in shows, or just want to make themselves more muscular. There is no fee to join this club and meeting times vary throughout the month. Let the UW Bodybuilders Club pump you up!

If you would like to join in on the craze of playing paintball then check out the UW Badger Paintball Club. This is a great way to interact with others and have fun and relieve some stress! This club’s goal is to form a nationally recognized paintball tournament team to represent the UW. This club practices on Saturdays and Sundays 2 times a month. The only fees are for the equipment that you need to buy. This is a great way to keep in shape!

For those who like to play golf the MBA Golf Club is what you are looking for. This club plays golf and puts on tournaments and putting contests throughout the season. It is a great way to kick back and relax and meet others that enjoy the game also. They meet at the Odana Hills Golf Course every Friday and the fees are the cost of rental and green fees at the course.

The Scrap booking Club is another great way to meet others and organize all you family and vacation pictures. You can learn and share different ways of organizing your favorite photos with others. They also put on local fund raising events and parties. There is no fee for this club and they meet every other Wednesday.

If you are into religion then the club for you is the Badger Ministry. This club helps Chirstians communicate their love to God with each other. They have bible studies, devotionals and church gatherings. It is a way for Christians to meet other Christians. There is no fee for this club and they meet every Thursday.

For the people that believe in the Islam Religion, there is the Muslim Students Association. They meet for gatherings, activities, and Islamic studies. This is a great way to learn more about the Islamic culture also. There is no fee and meetings are announced at a later date.

The Indonesian Catholics Club gives Indonesian students a chance to share their thoughts about Catholicism. It also helps them build a family with other Catholics students. They get together for weekly prayers, meetings, and different kinds of celebrations throughout the year. This club meets every Friday and there is no fee for joining.

If you enjoy to dance check out the Badger Ballroom Dance Team. This is a club that promotes dancing and performing in competitions around the area. It is great for those that want to learn how to dance or want to dance better. They meet every Monday and the fees are to be announced at the first meeting.

If you want to get better with your cooking skills, then check out the Gourmet Cooking Club. This club shares cooking ideas at meetings and get togethers. They also throw local fund raisers with soup kitchens and charity dinners. They meet once a month on Wednesday and the fees for this club will be announced at the first meeting also.

For those who have a passion for world travel you need to check out the World Travelers Club at the UW. This club educates others on cultural awareness and traveling tips. It is a great way to meet others with the same interest and learn about different regions of the world. There is no fee to join and meeting times will be discussed at a later date.

These are just a handful of clubs and organizations that are offered at the University of Madison. There are so many others dealing with things like recreation, religion, career fields, sororities, political, international and art. To get a full listing make sure to call the UW and have them send you a list of all of them. These activities and events are a great way to meet others and a great way to add to your resume for your career out of college. Make sure to check out the clubs that interest you. Remember you only go through college once, well most of the time! So make sure you get the most out of it as you can. I joined 2 different clubs when I went to school here and I met lots of great new friends in these clubs. I don’t regret at all joining them!
