Duct Tape Crafts: Purse

Duct Tape

Duct tape is not only good for securing and fixing things; it is also great for crafting. There are many fun items you can make using duct tape. Duct tape comes in a wide variety of colors, and it is super durable. This article will give you step-by-step instructions on how to create a duct tape purse craft that is easy, unique, and fun.

For this project you will need a large roll of duct tape in what ever color you like. You will also need scissors, a piece of cardboard, and pins or needles to make this craft easier. Start by creating a strap for your purse. The length of the desired strap will dictate how long the piece of duct tape you need is. To make a simple thin strap cut a piece of duct tape a few inches longer than the desired length and fold it in half so that it sticks to itself. If you would like a thicker strip pin the piece of duct tape to a piece of cardboard and place another piece directly on top of it. You can also make a braided strap by folding several pieces in half and braiding them together. Secure the braid with a small piece of duct tape.

To make the actual bag you will need a piece of cardboard that is bigger than half of your bag. Start by pining a piece of duct tape that is a little bit longer than half of you purse; rip off another piece the same length and slightly overlap it on top of the first piece. Pin this piece down as well, and continue adding pieces until you have reached the desired size of one side of your purse. Now layer more strips of duct tape on top of the first sheet, and remove from cardboard. Make the second side of your purse using the same method, and when this is complete you can but the purse together.

To assemble the purse start by cutting a piece of duct tape that goes completely around the side, bottom, and other side of the purse, and remember to add a few extra inches to attach your strap. Lay one of the sides of the purse halfway onto the piece of duct tape allowing about 2 inches to hang over the top. Place the other side next to the first side on the duct tape so that it is not exposed. Now fold the sides so that they lay on top of each other, and bend the tape across the bottom, and up the other side. Make sure to stick the tape evenly to both sides of the purse. Attach the straps to the tape that overhangs the bag, and follow the same procedure on the inside of the bag with more duct tape. This simple procedure will finish your purse, but feel free to add other creative details or more duct tape to reinforce your purse.Duct tape is useful for everything, and this fun craft project is no exception. Try making a duct tape purse, and you will be amazed at the results.
