Industrial Shower Curtain Craft Project: How to Make a Duct Tape Shower Curtain

Duct Tape

This industrial shower curtain made from duct tape is the perfect addition to an industrial loft bathroom or even a teen boy’s bathroom. Duct tape is a durable material, which is perfect for creating this shower curtain.

You can buy duct tape in a huge variety of colors, so get creative and create a colorful industrial look in your bathroom.

To make these simple Industrial Shower Curtain out of Duct Tape you will need:

Duct Tape (4 – 5 rolls)

Scissors

Ruler or tape measure

Masking Tape

The first step to making this simple Duct Tape Shower Curtain is to cut your Duct Tape. You can make your shower curtain any size that you want, but I like to make mine at least 71 inches deep and 71 inches wide. This is a standard shower curtain size.

By the way, my duct tape is 2 inches wide. This is really the best size for this Duct Tape Shower Curtain craft project, but you can always experiment with any size width you want!

Now, if you are using my measurements, then cut pieces of duct tape to 71inches long. You will need quite few of these and it is important to make these duct tape strips before you start assembling your industrial shower curtain.

Now, I like to go ahead and lay out the duct tape strip piece on a flat work surface I do not mind taping to. Now, you want to lay another strip of duct tap directly on top of this first piece. They should be sticky sides together creating one long strip.

Continue repeating this until you have about 75 strips of completed duct tape.

So, on your duct tape strips are ready you need to move to a flat floor surface to assemble the shower curtain.

Lay about 36 strips out horizontally. They should be lined up touching each other vertically. Tape each end down to the floor with some masking tape. It should look like a huge piece of lined paper.

Now, make sure to tape the ends down on each side. Only tape in one-inch form the ends. If you go any farther than you will be taping on the surface of your Duct Tape Shower Curtain.

Now, start working your vertical strips of duct tape in like you are weaving a basket.

Basically, start at the; left bottom corner, right inside of the masking tape.

Tear off a small piece of tape. Take on of your pieces of duct tape and weave it in and out while you keep it all the way to the left.

Use that small piece of tape to tape the end down on the bottom left. When you get to the top left, then tear off another piece of tape are firmly attach that end of the Duct Tape Shower Curtain to the floor as well. You should end up with one inch of spare Duct Tape sticking out each end of the shower curtain.

Now, repeat this step with another piece of Duct Tape Shower Curtain strip. Have it butt up to this first piece you wove vertically. Weave it the opposite of the first piece. So, if you started weaving over then under the first time, then this time you should go under than over.

Now, tape the ends down again.

Repeat this working until you reach the right side of the Duct Tape Shower Curtain. You should have one large woven square.

Now, once you are finished weaving you need to pull off any tape. Do this carefully so you do not unravel your Duct Tape Shower Curtain.

The duct tape shower curtain should stay together on its own while you do this next step. Use long strips of duct tape to line the edges of the show curtain. You can lay half of the tape on the front and fold it back to cover the rough edge. Work slowly and make sure you fold this exactly in half to create an even edge.

You could also use another color of duct tape to create an accent color.

You are finished making your industrial shower certain.

I like to finish it off with grommets along the top to hold it to your shower curtain rings. You can use this like a fabric shower curtain and line the inside with the traditional plastic shower curtain. This will make your duct tape shower curtain last longer and need less cleaning. You can use this alone as well though!
