Dinosaur Themed Party Games and Activities for Kids

How to Make a Pinata, Modeling Clay, Plaster of Paris, Tablescape

Are you searching for a few dinosaur themed games and activities to use at your child’s next birthday party? If so, I happen to have a handful of game and activity ideas that may be just what you’re looking for. Here they are:

Dinosaur Dig

Do you want to make the kids work for their party favors and have a great time in the process? If so, I would suggest making up a series of paper mache dinosaur bones and filling them with treats. Then hide the bones into a baby pool filled with sand and let the kids go digging for them. The best balloons to use as forms for your prehistoric, paper mache creations are pencil balloons. On average, a 260-piece case of pencil balloons is apt to lighten your wallet by about $9.

Fossil Casting

Fossil casting would make a great party activity too providing that you don’t mind the kids making a bit of a mess. It involves letting the kids work with modeling clay and plaster of paris. Of course you could always handle the plaster of paris part yourself. The other downside to making the casts is that the kids will have to wait for the plaster of paris to dry before they can play with their fossil casts. Complete instructions for making a homemade fossil cast are posted on the Home Science Tools website.

Pin the Plates on the Stegosaurus

Remember how much fun it was playing pin the tail on the donkey as a kid? Well, why not recreate that fun for your child by setting up a “pin the plates on the Stegosaurus” version of the classic birthday party game? It’s not a messy activity and it’s easy to set up. There is even a great, free printout of a Stegosaurus on the Enchanted Learning website that could be blown up and used as the game board. Just glue the printout to a large sheet of cardboard, grab a dinosaur bandana to use as a blindfold and create a bunch of Stegosaurus plates with a few sheets of heavy cardstock. That’s all that there is to it!

Dinosaur Bingo

Would you rather keep the kids in their chairs for a little while? Then a rousing game of Dinosaur Bingo might be your best bet. There are two ways to play the game. You could play it like a traditional game of bingo or give it a trivia twist. The trivia twist version requires the kids to know their dino facts. Thus, its best suited for older children. You can find typically instructions and the materials needed to play the trivia version of the game on the National Geographic website. There are also other dinosaur bingo card templates available on the Bingo Creator Card website should you want to make your own version of the game.
