Devon Seafood & Grill Review: My Favorite Seafood Restaurant in Philadelphia

Homemade Sauces

So while you’re visiting Philadelphia, or looking for a good spot to eat some delicious seafood, try out this restaurant. I used to work there for a couple of months, and would recommend it to anyone, it’s called Devon Seafood & Grill.

The place is too cute, fine dining with a modern twist (it used to be an old Houlihan’s), and it’s actually owned by them, too. Weird, huh? My paychecks actually said Houlihan’s, but I worked at Devon. Odd. It’s located in the heart of the city, Center City, in Rittenhouse square. Anyways, the place is great to take a date, while not having to be all dolled up, you can just walk in casually, sneakers if you want. But please – wear a nice shirt. The servers are great there, I mean hey – I was one of them! But seriously, we were always taught great customer service skills, and watch that one bottle of wine you order turn quickly into three, we were taught to sell, too. The appetizer’s are delicious. I HIGHLY recommend the Goat Cheese Bruschetta , never had nothing like it, and it is a light appetizer that won’t fill you up. But you’re going for seafood, right? Well get their Calamari, because it’s unlike any Calamari you’ve ever had. The have deep fried jalapenos and two delicious homemade sauces that go with it, I miss it already! They have great Cesar and house salads, and the best Lobster Bisque in the city. Don’t forget the Spicy Creole Gumbo served with steamed rice, another crowd pleaser to those who like it hot.

Devon is most popular for their crab cakes, and the are broiled which is probably the most flattering to my stomach. Oh, how I miss the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes – with no filling, all crab! Served with their two famous sauces, again (Creole remoulade and mango tartar sauce), you can’t help but indulge. Either as an appetizer or meal, you need to try a crab cake – you can even order just one. (Small or Large!) As for other choices, they have all kinds of fresh fish, Halibut, Sea bass, you name it, they probably have it. If you want to order a 5 lb. lobster, you can.. as long as it’s still swimming in the tank. And the lobster presentation is worth all the money you will pay for it, everyone in the place will see your lobster beautifully decorated on a plate, just for you. They also have a great happy hour with an oyster bar, (I can remember the smell now, there’s a chef who cooks behind the bar from a limited menu.) Mojitos are delicious there too, where have you ever had a Watermelon Mojito?

And folks, dessert I will not write on here, because this place is so good you need to try it, trust me. If you are a seafood lover, this is the place for you, or if you are looking for a great place to take a friend or girlfriend in Philadelphia, this is the place. No questions asked. The prices are moderate, plates for dinner can run anywhere from $15-$20, but you are getting quality food, and it’s a great atmosphere – and don’t forget, you’re in Rittenhouse square. A block down they sell the $100.00 Prime Rib Cheese steak. Check out their website, or if you’re in the mood for a great restaurant in Philadelphia, whether you are a local or in town, visit this place, and bring an empty stomach.
