10 Uses for Beau Monde Seasoning

Homemade Sauces

Beau monde seasoning has been manufactured by Spice Islands since 1941. With more than 60 years experience, Spice Islands have earned recognition as an industry leader by using some of the worlds’ most sought after and treasured spices.

Beau monde seasoning is a versatile mixture of spices that can be used to perk up the flavor of beef, pork, poultry, seafood, vegetables, soups and salads. Beau monde is often used with homemade dips, salad dressings and sauces and is the perfect accompaniment to frittatas and deviled eggs.

Made from a combination of salt, black pepper, white pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, mace and celery seeds, Beau Monde seasoning adds a mild nutty flavor. A little goes a long way, so Beau Monde should be used sparingly.

I was introduced to this delectable spice over 30 years ago, when my sister made a delightful chip and veggie dip which instantly became a family favorite. The beau monde dip can be served year round and is perfect for family gatherings, summer picnics and holiday fare.

To make beau monde chip and veggie dip, you’ll need: 1 8-ounce package softened cream cheese, 1-1/2 teaspoons Beau Monde seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, 2 to 3 tablespoons whole milk and 1/3 cup minced onion.

Using a hand mixer beat all ingredients together, except onions. Add milk one tablespoon at a time to achieve desired consistency. If serving with potato chips, the dip should be a bit thinner than if serving with vegetables. Once all ingredients are incorporated, add onions and mix by hand to incorporate.

Refrigerate beau monde dip for at least one hour before serving. Serve with potato chips, corn chips or fresh vegetables such as cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower or broccoli florets, baby carrots, celery sticks, radishes, black or green olives.

My second favorite use of beau monde seasoning is as a prime rib rub. Simply rinse the prime rib in cool water, shake off excess and add one to two teaspoons of seasoning per pound of meat. Gently press the seasoning over the entire surface of the meat and roast, broil, grill or slow cook.

A third use of beau monde seasoning is preparing chicken dishes. Season boneless chicken breasts with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of spice mixture, or use 1 teaspoon per pound when seasoning a whole chicken. Add 2 teaspoons of beau monde to white or whole wheat flour when making fried chicken. Add 1 teaspoon of beau monde seasoning to 1/2 cup butter and 1/4 cup hot sauce when making deep fried or grilled chicken wings.

A fourth use of beau monde seasoning is to enhance the flavor of pork. Season pork chops with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of spice mixture and bake, broil, pan fry or grill. Beau monde is perfect for pork roasts, but should be used in moderation to prevent an over salty flavor. Mix 1 tablespoon beau monde with 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper to create a char-crust for pork roasts. When making ribs add 1 to 2 teaspoons of beau monde to premade or homemade BBQ sauce for extra-zippy flavor.

A fifth use of beau monde seasoning is to combine 1 teaspoon of beau monde with 1/2 cup of crumbled blue cheese. Use seasoned blue cheese as a hamburger topping or sprinkle on salads.

A six use for beau monde is when cooking with potatoes. Nearly every potato recipe will taste better with the addition of this flavorful spice. Use beau monde with potato salad recipes, potato casseroles, boiled red potatoes, hash browns, or to season baked potatoes and French fries.

The seventh use for beau monde is with vegetables. Beau monde can be sprinkled on raw cucumber slices, radishes, green, red or yellow peppers, cherry or grape tomatoes, tomato slices and celery. It is the perfect accompaniment with steamed green beans, squash, carrots, spinach, collard greens and corn.

An eighth use for beau monde seasoning is with seafood and shellfish. Beau monde is a wonderful addition to shrimp cocktail, steamed lobster and crab, seafood chowders, clam bakes and as a rub for mahi-mahi, tilapia, salmon, trout and halibut.

The ninth use for beau monde spice is with eggs. Substitute beau monde for salt when making scrambled eggs, quiche, omelets or deviled eggs. Sprinkle a small amount of beau monde on fried eggs. Add one teaspoon of seasoning blend to Hollandaise sauce when making Eggs Benedict.

Last, but not least, beau monde is perfect for seasoning pasta dishes. From spaghetti and meatballs to manicotti and lasagna, beau monde heightens the flavor of all types of pasta. Add one teaspoon of beau monde seasoning to water before boiling pasta or add to premade or homemade sauces.

As you can see, beau monde can be used to season nearly any dish. Once you try it, chances are you will want to use beau monde in all your family favorite recipes. Explore more culinary delights using beau monde by visiting www.SpiceIslands.com.
