Crackdown 2 Campaign Tips

Crackdown 2 continues the open world romp through Pacific City that started in Crackdown. The story starts a few years after the end of the original with the gang wars long died down. Now Peacekeepers have just two main threats. The Cell, the only gang in town, oppose any Peacekeeper involvement and the Freaks are zombie like creatures that come out at night in mobs. There is a general overall story in Crackdown 2 but the game’s core focus is exploring the city and clearing out enemies. The campaign in Crackdown 2 has some tough spots but here are some tips to help complete it without dying repeatedly.

Crackdown 2 Campaign Tips – Starting Off
After the opening tutorial in Crackdown 2s campaign you will be tempted to head for all of the missions that show up on your map. Instead, take some time and level up your character’s abilities. Each of the abilities starts at 0% of level one and can go up to 100% of level 5. To level up all you need to do is run around in Crackdown 2 and kill enemies. Shoot all of the Cell troops you can find, and when you run low on ammo move on to punching enemies and throwing grenades. When night falls jump in a car and start driving down the main roads running over all the Freaks you can find. Once you have leveled up your guns, explosive, melee and driving to levels to at least three spend some time gathering agility orbs. Hitting up on the D-Pad gives you a look at where any orbs are on your mini-map. Getting all of your abilities up to level 3 or higher will make working through the missions much easier.

Crackdown 2 Campaign Tips – Tactical Locations
The Tactical Locations in Crackdown 2 are Cell strongholds that you need to clear out. The cell has the same weapons as you have available so facing dozens of them all at once can be tough. Before activating a Cell tactical location clear any enemies out of the area. Once the area is safe, and you have full health, trigger the location and them move to rooftop or corner so you are not getting shot from all sides. Use your grenades first to thin out the groups of Cell enemies. Then pick off any remaining Cell troops with a machine gun or rockets. Be sure to keep an eye on your health because dying will cause the location to reset and you will have to do it all over again.

Crackdown 2 Campaign Tips – Beacon Drops
Beacon Drops in Crackdown 2 are similar to the Tactical Locations but with Freaks. When you trigger a beacon you then have to protect it while it charges up. After you trigger the beacon get to some high ground. You don’t have to kill all of the Freaks, but just the ones damaging the beacon. So, focus on the freaks with the yellow markers above their heads, and then throw a grenade at the beacon whenever it gets fully surrounded. Once it is fully charged the beacon kills all the remaining freaks so just be sure to protect it from the attackers and ignore any other general Freaks milling around.

Crackdown 2 Campaign Tips – Helicopters
The helicopter in Crackdown 2’s campaign is a useful weapon and tool. The mounted rockets on it never run out of ammo so you can easily clear out an area from above with it. It also lets you get to the top of even the highest buildings without climbing. The helicopter is available from the start of the game but until you have reached level 5 agility they are not reachable. The helicopter pad is in the Agency Tower. Go in the main road entrance to the Agency Tower and turn around 180 degrees. Then jump up on the walkway above the entrance road. Turn left and climb the two windows of the building in front of you to get to the roof. Then jump from that roof to the helipad. There are four helicopters on the pad and if you wreck one it will reset after a couple minutes so there are always more helicopters available.
