Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipcolor VS. Revlon’s Colorstay Lipshine

Colorstay, Cover Girl, Fuller Lips, Lipcolor, Revlon Colorstay

I hate that as women get older, our lips begin to disappear. I use to be happy with my mouth. It wasn’t too big and it wasn’t too small. While, almost every woman I know would like to have fuller lips, I wasn’t disappointed with the shape of mine – – until now.

Consequently, I’m always looking for a lipstick that will make my lips look fuller, or at the least like they actually exist. Mostly, I’ve had a whole lot of misses, but occasionally I run into a lip polish or tint that worked. Two of my favorites are Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipcolor and Revlon’s Colorstay Lipshine and L’Oreal’s Volume Perfect.

Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipcolor is the original long-wearing lipcolor. Its advanced formula hopes to make certain that the brilliant and resilient colors provide excellent coverage for up to 10 hours. Cover Girl’s Outlast has a two step process.

The first tube provides superlative color that glides on smoothly with its wonderful sponge applicator. It remains color true and promises to be “kiss proof.”

The second tube contains a moisturizing topcoat in stick form. Its goal is to lock in the shine and ensure that the chosen color won’t feather or bleed.

Outlast comes in a variety of amazing colors including:

Reds: ever red-dy, timeless ruby, and flame;
Pinks to mauves: possibly pink, pink pearl, permapink, polished pearl, forever fawn, forever mauve, and your mauve;
Orchids to berries: berry pearl, raisin pearl; moonlight mauve, berry preserve, mystical mauve, and iced mauve;
Wines: wine to five, wine pearl, my papaya, blushed pearl, and aged wine;
Pinks to light roses: everbloom, metallic rose, autumn rose, rose pearl, and always rosy;
Plums: plumberry, plum pearl, plumrose pearl, malt pearl, plum blossom, iced latte, and burgundy pearl;
Dusty roses to light wines: spiced raisin, brazen raisin, and naturalist;
Corals to browns: coral rose, nude pearl, endless sands, canyon, lingering spice, stay one bronze, café latte, cinnamon stick, and praline pearl.

Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipcolor is easy to find. It is carried by most discount department stores, drug stores, and some grocery markets as well. The average cost is $8.99.

While I love Cover Girl’s color, which does remain true, unfortunately, I must disagree about its “staying power.” I’m sorry to say that I find that it comes off relatively easily when you are drinking a hot drink, eating, or kissing. It also tends to dry out the lips, which results in it flaking off throughout the day. I have to give this one just three out of five stars.

Revlon’s Colorstay Lipshine promises you unparalleled lipcolor that will work overtime, staying in place until you are ready to remove it. Lipshine bathes your lips in beautiful, lustrous color and shine that will can last up to 12 hours without requiring constant touch ups.

Lipshine comes in a single dual ended tube. One side smoothes on the stunning liquid formula with a soft, flexible sponge. The sensuous, rich color won’t kiss off, feather, or bleed outside your natural lipline.

The other end of the tube houses a clear, glossy topcoat that packs in the extra shine while also moisturizing the lips. I love the soft brush applicator and the fact that the gloss contains chamomile and soy extract to ensure the mouth remains soft and kissable.

Lipshine comes in several luscious shades as well. The colors include

Reds: atomic, torch, and scarlet;
Corals: flare, constant, and rouge;
Pinks and light roses: strobe, perpetual, keep blushing, and lasting peony;
Dusty roses and light wines: ultimate wine, ultimate flame, and enduring rose;
Orchids to light plums: lingering violet, maximum mauve, and limited mulberry;
Berries: berry reliable, perennial plum, and stay courant;
Beiges/Bronzes: timeless nude, faithful fawn, eternally tan, endless spice, always sienna, and strobe;
Browns: true chocolate, boundless brandy, and everlasting rum; and
Deep dusty roses: bare maximum, non stop cherry, infinite raspberry, and eternal petal.

I love Revlon’s lipstick, which is much softer and more flexible than Cover Girl’s version. It doesn’t dry out the lips, cake, or flake off. So far it is my favorite lip beauty product. I give it four out of five stars.

Revlon’s Colorstay Lipshine can also be found at most discount department stores, drug stores, and some grocery markets. Its average cost is also around $8.99.

Here is how the two products compare head to head:

Packaging goes to Revlon. The dual ended tube is easier to handle, stays closed, and slips into your pocket easily.
Product Size goes to Cover Girl. You receive more product because of the dual tube packaging.
Color Variety goes to Cover Girl. They have more colors than Revlon, albeit not by much.
Color Quality goes to Revlon. Both have amazing products that glide on easily and stay true, but Revlon is slightly better.
Product Effectiveness goes to Revlon. It feels better on the lips and lasts longer than Cover Girl.
Price Value goes to Revlon. You get more product with Cover Girl but you use more because it doesn’t last as long.

Head to head, Revlon edges out Cover Girl by a star. However, don’t ever dismiss Cover Girl. It is still a great product overall and Cover Girl is a company that is constantly improving.
