Approximately one hour ago, I was standing in the cashier line at a West Hartford, Connecticut Walgreens Pharmacy. As I gazed at the miscellaneous items displayed near the check-out counter, I couldn’t believe it when I saw a display of white colored bags of M & M’s chocolate candies that featured the word Coconut in bright red lettering.
Since I am a big fan of both chocolate and coconut, I couldn’t resist buying a single serving size package of Coconut M & M’s, which were also inexpensively priced. I must say, I’m very glad that I decided to try these chocolate candies. They are very flavorful and just a few of them satisfy my snack – appetite and sweet tooth.
Interestingly, these M & M’s come in just three colors ; green, white and brown and some of the candies feature little inscriptions on the candy shells. Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is one food writer’s product review of Coconut M & M’s.
Size In physical size, Coconut M & M’s are larger than regular – style M & M’s. The net weight of the standard, single – serving size Coconut M & M’s package is 1.50 ounces (42.5 grams). According to the package label, one bag equals one serving, but I’m guessing that I get at least three servings from a bag. In the past half hour, I’ve eaten roughly seven of these candies and my appetite and sweet tooth are satisfied, temporarily.
Price The only time that I have ever seen Coconut M & M’s is tonight, when I saw and purchased a package of them at a Walgreens Pharmacy. The advertised price was 3 / $2, which works out to approximately $0.67c for one 1.50 ounce single – serving package of the candies. Most likely, this is a promotional price and soon Coconut M & M’s will probably be the same price as other types of M & M’s.
Texture The texture of Coconut M & M’s is similar to that of regular – style M & M’s. The colored candy shells melt away to reveal soft, creamy chocolate that also melts in the mouth. The crisp candy shell provides a nice contrast to the chocolate inside, which leads to a satisfying mouth – feel.
Nutritional Facts Coconut M & M’s contain 210 calories, with 80 calories from fat, per one 1.50 ounce package. These candies also contain 5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 9 grams total fat, 5 mg of cholesterol, 30 mg of sodium, 30 grams total carbohydrates, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 26 grams of sugars and 2 grams of protein, per one 1.50 ounce package.
Taste / Flavor These candies are downright delicious. I’m a longtime consumer of M & M’s chocolate candies and through the years, I have eaten several different types of M & M’s. Up until now, my favorite types of M & M’s have been the original and Mint varieties, but now, another contender has entered the ring.
As I type these words, I am eating some of the Coconut M & M’s chocolate candies that I purchased a little while ago. As mentioned above, the candies are a little bit larger than regular – style M & M’s, closer in size, actually, to Peanut M & M’s. The green, white and brown treats possess the same great chocolatey taste that regular M & M’s have, but the addition of coconut to the chocolate gives these candies a delightful and fairly unique flavor that is quite satisfying.
It tastes like the coconut flavor in these candies might be in the colored shell. When my tongue first touches one of these candies, the flavor that is prominent is coconut. The coconut flavor is well-balanced with the chocolate and neither flavor dominates. Put simply, Coconut M & M’s are tasty little candies.
Packaging Coconut M & M’s are very attractively packaged. They are contained in a regular style M & M’s bag, which is white in color. The foreground of the front label features what appears to be a green, female M & M, leaning against half of a split coconut that is filled with Coconut M & M’s.
The front label also features a couple of palm trees, which add a lot to the illustration. The rear label of the package also lists all relevant ingredient, nutritional and consumer information related to the product.
Overall Rating All things considered, Coconut M & M’s are a great addition to the family of M & M’s chocolate candies. The combination of chocolate and coconut in these candies works well, with a nicely – balanced flavor that really pleases.
As far as I know, these candies are a new product and I have a feeling that they are going to be a big seller. If you are a fan of M & M’s chocolate candies and / or coconut, chances are, you’ll like these candies. Coconut M & M’s are highly recommended by this food writer.
