Within 10 miles of downtown Hartford, Connecticut, there are no fewer than 10 public golf courses. These are all of pretty good quality, though some are closer to country club-type of golf courses and others are small par 3 or executive-style courses. But if you’re in town for the Travelers Championship, or a resident in or near Hartford, Connecticut, there are great and affordable public golf courses no more than a 20-minute drive away. Here’s information on each of the public golf courses within 10 miles of Hartford, Connecticut.

The following list has information on tee times, fees, location, and in some cases amenities such as restaurants. For the greens’ fees, an approximate dollar figure is provided as these fees can and do change over time. The Hartford, Connecticut golf courses listed below are sorted by distance from the center of Hartford, with the shortest distance first.

Goodwin Golf Course

Goodwin Golf Course is one of two public golf courses within the city limits of Hartford, Connecticut. It features two courses, actually, an 18 hole course and then the ‘north course’, which is more geared to the novice player. On a personal note, I and probably thousands of other kids learned how to play golf at Goodwin. It brings back a lot of good memories and the reality is that the course is a good one. The main course is 6,015 yrds long. The north course, with 9 holes, is shorter with 2544 yards. No frills here, just good solid golf. Hartford residents pay only in the range of $16 to $20 for 18 holes, depending on what days they play. Non residents will pay more, up to nearly $30 as a range. Golf carts are optional and cost extra. Both weekend and weekday tee times can be reserved up to one week in advance.

Keney Golf Course

Keney Golf Course is one of two public golf courses within the city limits of Hartford, Connecticut. It is an 18 hole public golf course. Hartford, Connecticut residents can expect to pay in the $20 range, with slight variance for weeks and weekends. Non-residents will pay nearly $30.

Tee times at Keney Golf Course can be scheduled by calling the golf course up to a week in advance. As with the other Hartford, Connecticut public golf course, Keney Golf Course offers good conditions for no frills golf. Golf carts are not required, but are extra.

The golf course itself is just over 6000 yards from the farthest tees and it offers two levels of men’s and one level of ladies’ tees.

Long Hill Country Club is an 18 hole public golf course in East Hartford, Connecticut. It is the only public golf course in East Hartford, Connecticut.

Greens fees for 18 holes the Long Hill Country Club range from $19 to over $30, depending on whether you are a resident and what day of the week you play. This is an excellent value. Golf carts are optional and cost extra. Tee times for all days of the week can be reserved up to a week in advance, although on weekends and holiday mornings this East Hartford, Connecticut golf course only takes tee times for four people playing 18 holes.

The course itself is 6186 yards from the back tees.

Buena Vista Golf Course

Greens fees for the Buena Vista Golf Course are $20 to $25 for 18 holes (playing the course twice). There is a slight discount for West Hartford residents. 9 holes range in price from $9 to $15 based on residency status and what days you decide to play.

The Buena Vista Golf Course is 1,832 yards long and is a par 31. There are not a lot of amenities, but the course is kept in good and condition and it is a good place to get a quick round of golf in in the Hartford, Connecticut area.

The Rockledge Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course in West Hartford, Connecticut. It is one of two public golf courses in West Hartford, Connecticut and is probably the most prestigious course in the area. Residents of West Hartford, Connecticut get a discount as they pay $25 to $30 for weekdays and $30 to $35 for weekends, whereas non-residents pay $35 to $40 for weekday golf and close to $40 for the weekends. Golf carts are optional and are an additional charge. Tee times can be reserved up to 7 days in advance for weekday golf and weekend reservations may be reserved up to 3 days in advance and can be made by calling the course or through an online service for registered members.

Rockledge offers special rates for seniors and children 13 to 18.

Rockledge Golf Club features a well regarded restaurant called Angelo’s, with outdoor seating overlooking the course. This is a very popular restaurant with golfers and non golfers alike…the food is of great quality and the atmosphere second to none.

Gillette Ridge Golf Club, an 18 hole golf course, is one of two public golf courses in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Located just a few minutes from the center of Hartford, Connecticut, Gillette Ridge Golf Club is arguably the most challenging in the Hartford, Connecticut area.

This golf course is for the ‘big hitter’; the course is 7191 yards long from its longest tees. The golf course offers four tees: black, gold, silver and bronze. The fees for 18 holes are near $85 for 18 holes on the weekends over $70 during the week. Carts, which are required, are included.

Tee time reservations are accepted up to a week in advance and can be secured by calling the golf course or through their website. The course is heavy on amenities, with a 6,000 square foot clubhouse, a great restaurant and a relaxing lounge.

Wintonbury Hills Golf Course

While I have not yet played this course, I certainly plan to based upon its excellent reputation.

This is a Peter Dye designed course. This course has won numerous awards, including a Top Ten Best Golf Course in Connecticut by Golf Digest. This is one of two public golf courses in Bloomfield, Connecticut and is only minutes from Hartford, Connecticut.

Weekend greens fees are $79 and weekday greens fees are $69 for non-residents. Bloomfield, Connecticut residents get a substantial discount, with residents paying $45 to $55.

For non-members, tee times can be reserved 8 days in advance on their website or 7 days in advance by calling the golf course.

This Hartford, Connecticut area golf course is 6711 yards long from its furthest tees and features four levels of tees, “tournament”, “back” “middle” and “front” for players of all abilities.

Blue Fox Run Golf Course

Blue Fox Run Golf Course is a public golf course located in Avon, Connecticut. It is a public golf course with 18 holes and will soon complete another 9 holes, giving it a total of 27 holes. It is the only public golf course in Avon, Connecticut. Weekend starting times can be made on the Mondays prior as early as 7:30AM. Weekday starting times can be made up to a week in advance. Reservations can be made at the course itself or by calling the course. 18 holes cost $34 on weekdays and $44 on weekends. As this is the only public golf course in Avon, Connecticut, reserving a tee time is recommended. The golf course itself has 4 par 3’s, and 4 par 5’s. The Blue Fox Run Golf Course features red, gold, white and blue tees. Golf carts are optional at this Avon, Connecticut public golf course and cost $15 per 18 holes. Blue Fox Run also offers a driving range.

The Blue Fox Run Golf Course in Avon, Connecticut is 6779 yards long from its back tees. This Avon, Connecticut golf course has an active men’s club as well as a full service restaurant.

Manchester Country Club is a Hartford, Connecticut area public golf course. It is the only public golf course in the town of Manchester, Connecticut. Tee times can be reserved 7 days in advance for weekday tee times and by a Wednesday afternoon in person lottery system for the weekends. Greens fees range from $23 to $45 based on when you play and your residency status. There are also junior and senior discounts available. There are several levels of membership packages available as well that allow for preferential tee times and unlimited golf. For a non-member, this can be a difficult course to reserve time on as primes spots, such as Saturday mornings, are reserved for members only. That said, it is a public course and if you’re persistent, you should be able to find a place to play.

The golf course itself is an ‘old time’ course as it very much reflects the natural terrain of the area. It is kept in excellent shape. The golf course is 6285 from its longest tees and offers blue and white for men golfers and red tees for ladies.

Connecticut Golf Land is a place for the family to go. It has a par 3 course and all sorts of other activities for kids. It’s a great place to teach kids golf in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

This is not a place for a serious round of golf, though for a par 3 its a fun little place. It’s $14 for 18 holes on the weekends and $10 for 18 holes during the week. This is a 9 hole course, however, so the 18 holes would mean playing it twice. To play just the nine holes, it’s $6 during the week and $8 during the weekend.
