Cheap, Free and Fun Events for Children

Babies R Us, Home Depot, Kids Events

Children are always asking for things to do, but we as parents run out of ideas or money very quickly. Here are some places that you can take your children to entertain them for a couple of hours for free or at the least very cheap. Check in your local area to see if they participate. Not all stores and places will participate.

Michael’s Kids Club Imagination Saturdays – This event is for ages 5-12. It is a 30-minute craft project at the following times: 10am, 10:30am, 11am, and 11:30am on Saturdays. The cost to participate includes the supplies needed for the project. The cost per project is usually $2. Check the website for specific crafts for certain days or check with your local Michaels store.

Joann’s – I’ve heard that some Joann’s stores have kids events also. I don’t know the specifics of these events so you will need to check their website or your local Joann store.

Home Depot Kids Workshops – This free event is for ages 5-12. Home Depot offers these events the first Saturday of the month from 9am – noon. Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. The projects are prefabricated kits. There are all kids of projects. Children are able to keep their projects along with an apron similar to the one that Home Depot employees wear, and an achievement pin. Contact your local Home Depot store to see if they participate. The website mentioned previously gives more detailed information. You can also check the website to find out what projects are being made when at your local Home Depot store.

Lowe’s How-To Clinics For Kids – The projects at Lowe’s are similar to the ones mentioned above at the Home Depot. Check out this website to check for events in your area or check with your local Lowe’s store to see what projects they are working on when.

Toys R Us – Toys R Us has many in store events from crafts to meeting your favorite characters, such as the Power Rangers. These events are free. Check the above website or your local Toys R Us store for specific events and times for your local area.

Babies R Us – Babies R Us offers many in store events for the whole family whether it be for the newly pregnant mother to the experienced parent who just wants a safety check there is plenty to get involved in. These events are free. Some example of some of Babies R Us events are the Healthy Baby Fair and the Home Safety Seminar: Baby-Proofing Essentials. Check the above mentioned website or your local Babies R Us store for specific events, dates, and times.

Barnes & Noble Storytimes – This free event occurs at various days and times depending on the store. Check out the website or your local Barnes & Noble store for times and locations. They have a story time where employees will read stories to your children. They also have costume storybook character for the children to see too. They also have games and many of other free events for all ages.

Your local library will probably have tons of free activities for everyone in the whole family. From story time to arts and crafts to books clubs. They usually have something of interest to every member of the family. Your local library can also help you find fun and exciting family fun things to do and places to see in your local area.

You can also check your local area chamber of commerce for cheap or free things in your area. After living in area for years you forget all the hidden treasures that it has to offer.
