When traveling, most people choose to stay at a hotel. Hotels are often the cheapest and most convenient option for lodging. As is the case with many other types of businesses, you will get what you pay for most of the time. There are some ways to save money when you book a hotel room.
First, find out if the hotel has a loyalty program. You can find this out by visiting their web site or by calling the hotel. Many of these loyalty programs offer discounts or free upgrades.
Second, always call the hotel directly. The reservation specialists at the hotel chains reservation line usually cannot give discounts on room prices. When you call the hotel, try to call in the evening and as close as possible to your check in date. Hotels will often give you a discount if you make a reservation at the last minute just so that they have more revenue. One word of caution about this is to be sure that they will have rooms available if you wait. Some hotels will tell you how many rooms are left for that date.
Third, find out if there are any major events in the city to which you will be traveling. Hotels will either offer discounts because of the event or they will drastically raise the price of the rooms.
Fourth, consider your travel dates. Rooms are usually cheaper Sunday thru Thursday, so try to arrange your trip with those days of the week in mind.
In Memphis, it is best to stick to well known hotel chains. There are some mom and pop hotels that are nice but, with most of those, you run the risk of being disappointed. That is not to say that you will definitely be disappointed but, most of the smaller hotels are not as nice and not as quiet. Well known hotel chains have customer satisfaction standards and usually have a 24 hour hot line that you can use to voice complaints. The management at the hotel does not want these complaints filed so problems at well know hotels will be addressed faster.
I have found some good hotels in Memphis that will please just about every traveler. These hotels are in good locations. I hope my list makes things easier for you.
The Holiday Inn Select Memphis International Airport is my first choice. The phone number to the hotel is (901) 332-1130. This hotel offers a free shuttle to and from Memphis International. This hotel offers suites, double beds or king sized beds in their rooms. The rooms are nice. They are clean and spacious. Pets are not allowed at this hotel. Service animals are allowed with advanced notice.
There are a lot of amenities. They have a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, community whirl pool, fitness center, business center, restaurant, lounge, laundry service and room service. The fitness center is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The business center has a computer available. They also offer a secretarial service, copy service, available fax and mail service, and Internet access. The lounge is open 24 hours a day.
The prices at this hotel vary depending on the room type and dates of travel so, the best thing to do is to decide your specific needs and call to find the applicable price. Rooms start at about $83 a night.
The Courtyard by Marriott Memphis Airport is my next choice. The phone number to the hotel is (901) 396-3600. This hotel is a smoke free facility. They offer free parking to guests but, no park and fly. There is a free shuttle to and from Memphis International. They offer suites and regular rooms. This hotel has a swimming pool, fitness center and high speed Internet access. They do offer some package deals. Pets are not allowed at this hotel. Once again, the rates widely vary depending on the specifics of your travel and needs so, it is best to contact the hotel for rates. Rooms start at about $135 a night but, I think the price is worth it.
The Radisson Memphis Airport is third on my list. The phone number to the hotel is (901) 332-2370. This hotel is fairly nice. This is an example of a hotel that raises prices significantly when there are events going on in Memphis. The staff is friendly and professional. I put this one on my list because it is a safe and clean place to stay so, if those two things are your only concern, this is a good choice. They do offer a free shuttle to and from the Memphis International Airport. They have an outdoor pool, tennis courts, fitness center and high speed Internet access in public areas. Rooms start at $98 per night.
If your stay in Memphis will be longer than a couple of nights or if you want a home like atmosphere, consider staying at the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel. (901) 344-0010 is the phone number to the hotel. They offer kitchens in their very spacious rooms. There is not a fitness center on site but there is a fitness center off site that offers a discount to people staying at the hotel. There is no shuttle offered to the airport. One pet is allowed per room. Every room has a nice work area. This is a good place to stay if you plan on renting a car while you are in Memphis. Rooms start at about $50 a night.
The Super 7 Inn Memphis is a cheap place to stay. The hotel can be reached at (901) 346-0992. While this is not a widely know hotel, the rooms are super for the low price which starts at $40 a night. They offer double bed rooms, queen rooms and suites. Rooms are divided into smoking and non smoking rooms. They have a seasonal outdoor pool, wireless Internet access, and pets are allowed. There is no airport shuttle available but, the front desk staff will call a taxi cab for you.
The Knights Inn Memphis Airport is last on my list. The hotel phone number is (901) 345-8554. This hotel is only 1 mile from the airport. Because of the very close proximity to the busy FedEx hub, this is a very noisy place to stay. Rooms start at $40 a night. This hotel offers complimentary breakfast, Internet access, and a pool. Pets are allowed. There is a valet service that can take you to the airport for a nominal fee. This is a good choice for a short stay where all that matters is a shower and a place to lay down.
