Blue Bird Powdered Donuts: A Tasty Treat

Doughnuts

Craving a sugary doughnut but not able to get to the nearest doughnut shop? Then be sure you pick up a bag of Blue Bird’s powdered donuts at your local grocer! Blue Bird powdered donuts offer a sugary zing that tastes great and can be bought for less than your local doughnut shop probably would charge you.

About Blue Bird Powdered Donuts

Blue Bird powdered donuts offer a thick, white powdered sugar coating on a cake-like donut. Each doughnut is small — slightly larger than an old-fashioned silver dollar — and a little less than an inch thick. Because of their small size, the health-conscious crowd can better control how much they eat, allowing each person to “personalize” their serving based on the food label on the back of the package.

I have come to expect good taste from the Blue Bird line, as – I must confess – I have tried several of their dessert and snack products over the years! While some of Blue Bird’s products are about as good as the competitor’s, these powdered donuts, overall, rank above the rest in my opinion. In what areas? Primarily taste and texture.

Maybe it’s just me, but Blue Bird’s powdered donuts don’t seem as crumbly to me as some of the other similar powdered donuts offerings I have tried. These doughnuts also don’t feel quite as greasy as other doughnut products often sold on a grocer’s aisle end cap. The white powdered sugar coating is thick, but does not render these doughnuts overly sweet; though some of the sugar powder does tend to fall off every now and then.

The Blue Bird powdered donuts package states the company uses “quality ingredients” and “meet[s] high standards.” While the bag does not state who sets these “standards,” I have to hand it to the company – for the price of the product and what they are offering, these are some pretty good snack doughnuts! I have to watch I don’t eat more than three or four at a time, though.

The Food Label

Here’s the part that may be a little more unsettling for you to read: the food label. With good taste sometimes there comes a little bit of not-so-good news: the saturated fat, calories, and calories from fat content levels are a little high.

A serving consists of four doughnuts (six servings per bag), so keep that in mind as you read the numbers below. I will list two sets of numbers; one for the four-doughnut serving, and the other that breaks down the numbers for just one doughnut. A four-doughnut serving weighs 52 grams or about 1.8 ounces. The single-doughnut ( 13-gram and 1/2-ounce) numbers are not officially listed on the back of the package and, may differ in actuality based on rounding and other factors.

Let’s take a look at some of the basic numbers on the back of the Blue Bird powdered donuts bag:

210 calories (four doughnuts)
53 calories (one doughnut)

90 calories from fat (four doughnuts)
23 calories from fat (one doughnut)

10 grams total fat (four doughnuts)
3 grams total fat (one doughnut)

4.5 grams saturated fat (four doughnuts)
1 gram saturated fat (one doughnut)

0 grams trans fat (for both four-doughnut and one-doughnut servings)
