There are tons of great hamburger joints and restaurants in Chicago, but the place with the best burgers for a great price is Moody’s Pub, located in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago at 5910 N. Broadway.
Upon arriving to Moody’s, you’ll notice the comfortable and laid-back atmosphere. The best time to go is during the spring or summer, when you can sit outside in the restaurant’s adjacent outdoor eating area/beer garden with tons of seating. The inside of the restaurant isn’t as relaxing. In fact, it’s mostly dark and dingy, hence another reason why it’s nice to sit outside. Don’t let the inside of the restaurant scare you away, especially since it doesn’t represent the quality of the restaurant at all. Just want until you get to the menu.
Moody’s Pub has a no-fuss menu in the summer. You get the basics: burgers and fries, with only a few other choices. Although this might scare away picky eaters, it most certainly draws burger lovers to this amazing and cozy restaurant. In the winter, there is a full dinner menu with 1lb steak ($9), pork chops ($9), and fried shrimp ($7). Additionally, you can order pitchers of your favorite soda or dirt cheap beer. Moody’s best burger is the self-named Moodyburger, a half pound of delicious and lean beef with all the toppings you desire, including your choice of cheese. With the burgers, as well as everything else you are able to order, comes hand cut fries which are deliciously doused in the right amount of salt and fried until crispy and crunchy. If you’re already drooling, check out the prices. The average price per person, including drinks, is about 9 dollars. This is a great deal, considering the quality and quantity of food you get. If you’re expecting to go to Moody’s with a full group on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, it’s best to make reservations by calling 773-275-2696 at least 24 hours ahead of time. This way, the staff can reserve tables in the beer garden that quickly fill up on those three busy nights. Since Moody’s isn’t as busy during the winter, reservations during this time of the year aren’t as crucial as they are during the summer.
Even though Moody’s Pub has a beer garden, don’t let that think you can’t take children there. Kids will love sharing Moody’s burgers or chicken sandwiches, with their own choice of toppings, and the great fries. You can also order juice or milk for them as well. Additionally, there is no smoking in the restaurant or in the beer garden, per Illinois law.
