Beautifying Benefits of Red Rooibos

Homemade Skin Care, Poison Ivy Rash, Rooibos, Rooibos Tea

Red rooibos an herb from South Africa has been used for centuries to help keep the skin radiant and beautiful. The herb contains an abundant amount of nutrients in it that are beneficial to the skins health such as phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alpha-hydroxy acids, zinc, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, copper, fluoride and manganese. The herb also has many medicinal properties in it as well such as anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-viral and anti-mutagenic, which are all excellent for treating skin discomforts such as sunburns, acne, and rashes.

I personally use this herb whenever I can to make potent homemade skin care products to help pamper and nourish my skin. I know from personal experience that this herb does help rejuvenate the skin, soothe away sunburns, treats and clears up acne and helps heal rashes right up beautifully. I will share with all of you the way I have used red rooibos to help beautifying and heal my skin naturally.

Treating a Sunburn with Red Rooibos

I do my very best to always wear sunscreen when I am out in the sun for long periods, but sometimes I still find myself burning in certain areas simply because I forgot to apply sunscreen to a particular area of my body.

When I do, get sunburned skin the first this I go to grab is six organic red rooibos teabags and a liter of aloe juice. The reason why is because the red rooibos contains nutrients that helps heal the skin from sun damage and the aloe helps soothe the burning sensation caused by the sunburn. Once I have the two ingredients I pour them into a cool bath. After, I get into the bath and soak for thirty minutes so the red rooibos and aloe can really soak deep into the skin to help heal it. The reason I make and soak in a cool bath with these ingredients is that you want to cool down the skin as much as possible when you have sunburned skin to help relieve the inflammation and burning sensation completely.

Now, you can take a red rooibos bath with aloe juice as often as you need to throughout the day to help ease any sunburn discomforts away naturally. You may even soak in this bath mixture to help ease away itchiness due to chicken pox, poison ivy rash, hives, eczema and insect bites. The red rooibos and aloe contains medicinal properties in it that will relieve the itching and soothe the skin while cleansing it gently.

Red Rooibos Facial

One of my favorite ways to use red rooibos is to make a simple, yet luxurious facial. The way I do that is by place a fourth cup of dried red rooibos leaves into a large pot of water on the stove and bring the ingredients to a roaring boil so a lot of steam is coming out of the pan and the water turns a rich deep reddish color. After, I remove the steamy hot pot off the stove and onto the kitchen table near a chair. Then I simply place my face over the red rooibos steam and allow it to cleanse my skin deep beneath the pores. However, you want to be very careful doing this because you do not want to burn your skin with the hot water or overly hot steam. Just gently, place you face over the steam so it is bearable.

As the red rooibos steams hits your face, your pores will open up and sweat out all the toxins, heavy metals, makeup, dirt, oils, blackheads and puss from acne that does not belong in the skin. You will want to keep your face over the steam for a good twenty minutes. After, it is best to pat your skin dry with a organic cotton cloth and splash your face with cool water to help close the pores back up tightly so bacteria, dirt, oils and other harmful debris doesn’t get back into the skin and cause more skin problems.

I typically try to do a red rooibos facial twice a month too simply keep my skin radiant, clear and beautiful, but you may use it as often as you would like. If you have acne prone skin and stubborn blackheads this is an excellent facial to do daily until your skin is all cleared up because red rooibos contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help cleanse the harmful bacteria from the skin naturally. However, if your skin does become dry from using this facial it is best to stop for a week or two before using it again.

Drinking Red Rooibos Tea Daily

Another way I help keep my skin healthy from the inside out is by drinking organic red rooibos tea iced, or hot throughout my day. Drinking red rooibos helps get the antioxidants from the herb directly into my body so my body can fight off the free radical cells and stress that causes early signs of aging.

In addition, the antioxidants and minerals in red rooibos even have the ability to help prevent sunburn
burned skin from happening when it is drunk more than three times daily. This I know for fact because I was drinking down tons of red rooibos tea for a week straight and was out in the sun constantly without sunscreen and my skin was not even burned. However, drinking red rooibos tea off and on will not help protect your skin from the sun so make sure you always try to wear sunscreen. You really have to drink the tea constantly to help prevent the skin from becoming sunburned.

Now, the best and easiest way to make a potent healthy pot of red rooibos tea is by simply placing four red rooibos teabags directly into a teakettle filled with water and bringing it to a roaring boil. Once the red rooibos tea has reached a roaring boil and has a sweet vanilla like flavor and deep red color, you will know it is potent and ready to drink up. You make add honey, sugar or milk to your red rooibos tea, but I personally like to drink the tea as it is because it has such a mellow sweet flavor to it that I really love.

Bottom Line

Red rooibos is beneficial to the skin whether you use it directly on the skin, or drink it down as it is or sweetened up with honey. You choose which ways you prefer to use red rooibos in your lifestyle to help keep your skin beautiful naturally.
