Alesis Micro EQ Equalizer Unit – Review

One thing that people have very little of in a smaller home or bedroom studio is physical room. We try and devote as much of it as we can to our craft but somehow there is never enough of it to cover all of the things that we want or need to help improve our recording.

It would be fantastic if everything that you attempted to record sounded great straight to tape. Unfortunately everyone knows that when you record something it is inevitable that you are going to have to add EQ to the sound to make it sound good. It is very rare, especially in a budget conscious home system, that you get a killer sound with no tweaking.

That is precisely where the Alesis Micro EQ comes into play. Not only does it make life easier but it actually shines while doing it. The unit is the Alesis standard 1/3 rack size so you can actually fit three of these in one rack space meaning that you can have either three stereo EQ units or six mono units working to enhance and smooth out your tone. That makes these units very attractive for the space weary small studio.

Another plus here is that they are very quiet and do a phenomenal job at making things sound awesome.

The only bad points that you will find on these things, in fact on most any small home studio electronics is that they use the power adaptors commonly known in the industry as Wall Warts. These are a necessary evil that musicians have learned to deal with. Units have been made with these types of power sources to keep the size of the unit as well as the price of the unit down to a manageable level.

You will find that it has a 15db cut or boost per frequency and has an in and out button, a Q button for each band and three fully sweep able knobs to let you adjust the tone to your hearts content. All the connections nestle nicely on the rear of the unit so that things in your rack stay looking nice on the front. A great and very welcome addition to any recording arsenal
