A Taste of Carvel Ice Cream Review

Dove Chocolate, Dreyers, edy's, Waffle Cone

A Taste of Carvel in the vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream flavor with chocolate flavored “crunchies” was surprisingly delicious. It’s certainly not a health food by any stretch of the imagination, but in terms of taste and texture, wow.

A Taste of Carvel is an individual size container of soft Carvel ice cream with delicious chocolate crumbles on top. I bought my Taste of Carvel chocolate and vanilla ice cream from Publix Grocery store.

Carvel has been making ice cream cakes since 1934. Sometimes you only want a few bites, and that’s why the individual serving sizes are so handy.

I was curious to compare the Taste of Carvel ice cream to my recent reviews of Dairy Queen Reese’s Blizzard cake, Edy’s orange and cream bars, Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Brittle and Ben & Jerry’s Dulce Delish.

I remember going to an old-fashioned Carvel Ice Cream store for birthday parties when I was a child growing up in Maryland. Having a small container of A Taste of Carvel is perfect for nostalgic purposes.

Here’s what I can tell you about A Taste of Carvel Ice Cream.

No. 1: The Taste of Carvel in plastic containers are great for handy after-school snacks or treats.

No. 2: Although the ingredients are listed on the A Taste of Carvel package, they ask you to write to the company for nutritional information. The address given is Celebration Foods, One Celebration Way, New Britain, CT 06053 or call (800) 322-4848.

No. 3: A taste of Carvel contains both natural and artificial flavors. The only animal products they use are milk and eggs.

No. 4: The first ingredients listed are milk, cream, skim milk and sugar.

No. 5: A Taste of Carvel comes in a six fluid ounce container. Make sure to check the expiration date on the lid. You may be lucky enough to find a coupon on the back of the plastic lid.

Although the A Taste of Carvel does not a lot of nutritional information, the Carvel website may be helpful to people with allergies.

For example, most of their ice creams are gluten free. However, the crunchies found on the ice cream cakes and also on top of the A Taste of Carvel product are not gluten free. If you are on a gluten free diet, try Amy’s gluten free chocolate cake instead.

If you are on a gluten free diet, avoid the Carvel sprinkles, chocolate crunch, brownies, sugar, cake and waffle cones, pound cakes, cupcakes, vanilla crunch, cookie dough ice cream and toppings, waffle cone dip and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal used in their fried ice cream and fried ice cream Arctic Blender.

Compared to some of the other ice creams I’ve tried, I’d say the A Taste of Carvel is about equal to the DQ Blizzard cake. It’s softer than the Ben & Jerry’s and tastes lighter.

I give A Taste of Carvel a 4 stars out of 5 for taste and I’ll skip the nutrition since it’s not a health food!
