These delicious summer recipes can be used all year long, but are especially tasty as 4th of July dessert ideas. Grand Old Flag Dessert

The first of our 4th of July dessert ideas is our “Grand Old Flag” Dessert. This is a great summer recipe because it uses refrigerated sugar dough and other quick ingredients.

1 tube refrigerator sugar cookie dough
16 ounces of cream cheese (softened)
¾ cup powdered sugar
4 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
½ cup fresh blueberries
2 cups fresh strawberries

Press cookie dough into the bottom of a shallow baking pan or cookie sheet. Bake according to package directions and allow to cool on a wire rack when done.

Beat cream cheese, sugar and lemon juice in a small bowl until smooth. Spread evenly over cooled cookie.

The fruit will be assembled on the cookie to resemble a flag. The blueberries will be used as the “stars”, and the strawberries will be placed in a stripe pattern to form the “stripes”. Place the blueberries in the top left corner. Then, take the fresh strawberries, and cut them in half. Arrange them in rows to create the stripes. -Keep refrigerated-

Angel Food Cake Surprise

Our next dessert in our 4th of July dessert ideas list is absolutely delicious, and no one will ever guess how simple it is to prepare. “Angel Food Cake Surprise” is a perfect summer recipe because it requires NO BAKING! Throw it together in minutes, and you’ll have a cool and refreshing 4th of July dessert.

Pre-baked Angel Food cake
Small package of Instant Vanilla pudding
1 cup strawberries
8 ounces of Cool Whip
1 cup blueberries

Make pudding according to package directions and keep in refrigerator until ready. Take the angel food cake, and cut it in two so that you’ll have a top half and a bottom half. Take the bottom half and dig out a well with a spoon. Save the angel food cake you removed and enjoy it later. Dice about ¼ cup of the strawberries finely, and mix it with the prepared pudding. Add the pudding to the “well” area in the cake. Place the top portion back on the cake. Frost the cake using the cool whip and the decorate it with the extra strawberries and blueberries. (Raspberries can be substituted, if desired) -Keep refrigerated-

Firecracker Pops

This next dessert in our 4th of July dessert ideas list is one that children love. Easy to make, colorful to look at, these “Firecracker Pops” are simple summer recipe that kids can help make.

12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
4 ½ teaspoons vegetable oil
1 package large marshmallows
1 package popsicle sticks (find at craft store)
Red, white and blue sprinkles

In a small bowl, melt chocolate chips and vegetable oil in the microwave. Heat just until melted and stir until smooth. Put two large marshmallows on each popsicle stick and dip them in the melted chocolate. Cover with the red, white and blue sprinkles, and allow to set on wax paper. Set in refrigerator until firm.

4th of July Jell-O Treat

The fun red, white and blue colors in this dessert make it perfect for the 4th of July . You can change the colors around in this “4th of July Jell-O Treat“, to make it suitable for any holiday.

3 ounces blue Jell-O (flavor of your choice)
3 ounces red Jell-O (flavor of your choice)
2 cups boiling water – divided
½(drained)

In a bowl, dissolve blue Jell-O in one cup boiling water, and then add ¼ cup cold water. Pour into a small pan and place in refrigerator until set. Prepare the red Jell-O in the same way. Take the pear halves and cut them into cube shapes. Return to refrigerator. When both Jell-O’s have set, cut into cubes and VERY GENTLY combine with pear cubes. Serve immediately.

Frosted 4th of July star cookies

These soft and buttery cookies will have guests asking for more. This 4th of July dessert idea can be made simpler by using pre-made cookie dough instead of making it from scratch.

½:

¼ cup cold milk
3 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding mix
½ cup butter (softened)
2 ½ cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Red and blue food coloring

Combine butter and sugar in a large bowl. Beat in the egg, sour cream and vanilla extract. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight.

Roll out cookie dough and cut out star shapes. Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375 for 8 – 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

To make frosting, combine milk and pudding mix until smooth. In a separate bowl, cream butter, then add pudding mixture. Slowly add powdered sugar and vanilla. Separate into three bowl. Add red food coloring to one bowl. Leave one bowl white. Add blue food coloring to the third bowl. Frost cookies and decorate with sprinkles, colored sugar, non-perils, and so on.
