Work Ethics in the Workplace and School

The ten work ethics traits are necessary for one to possess in order to maintain a smooth working environment. These qualities help provide a healthy atmosphere for every employee within a company. If a person fails to recognize the importance of these characteristics, productivity in the workplace could be halted. The possession of work ethics traits does not necessarily deem a person as a good employee. One must also improve and act upon these ethics to the best of his or her abilities to keep a steady flow of work. Work ethics can even be applied to one’s schooling. A smooth working environment may be carried on into a student’s studies if he or she practices these traits.

The first important trait one can improve upon is attendance. It is not enough for an employee to arrive at work on time. It would be very helpful to arrive before the scheduled time to assure that everything for that shift is ready and in place. By making sure everything is in order ahead of time, the work day can almost guarantee a smooth operation. The same should apply when it comes to your lunch break. If you are done eating fifteen minutes before you should be back, instead of waiting on the time to be up you could go and do some more work or help out your co-workers.

Attendance is also very important when it comes to schooling. When a teacher schedules a class, it is imperative that each student arrives on time. This time schedule should be kept in order to make good use of the teacher’s and students’ time. Students may miss key elements of the lesson if they miss a class. It can also set back an entire class if a teacher has to set aside time to teach a prior lesson to a student who was absent. If students are tardy to class, the consequences could be grave. Students first learned of these consequences when they began high school. Most schools gave a tardy limit, and when that limit was reached, the students faced behavior referrals and detentions. In college, the consequences are more severe. When a student reaches the tardy limit, they are dropped from the class. This can be a great inconvenience for most, making it very important to attend class.

An employee can help boost the morale of fellow coworkers by making improvements to his or her character. By showing traits such as loyalty, honesty, responsibility, and reliability, one will be trusted by other employees. This helps rid the workplace of negativity and provides a cheerful atmosphere. When someone makes changes to his or her character, they can make adjustments to their attitude as well. One must have a good attitude within the workplace. If an employee portrays a negative attitude all the time, he or she will dislike the job and bring down the spirits of others.

The ability to work as a team member is vital in the workplace. Employees must be able to work as a team to ensure a productive work day. If certain employees tend to be independent and unwilling to work with others, the effects could be detrimental to the company. If a co-worker is having a problem communicating then it could not only affect you but it could also affect the whole corporation. Changes must be made by these workers to make certain of successful work
.

Appearance is also a key work ethic to keep in mind. If one is not aware of his or her looks, a customer may get the wrong first impression about the business. There is no need to be going to school, or work in tattered clothes. You should also stick with the same lines when it comes to grooming, you should keep both your beard and hair trimmed and business like. This could potentially cause a loss of clientele, and also a loss of respect when it comes to the way both your teacher and fellow students look at you.

Without productivity, a company will not thrive. Employees must work with efficiency to make sure the company’s work continues to grow. To improve productivity organizational skills must be used. If the workplace is cluttered, nothing will get done on time. Things must be kept in a certain order for the business to function.

Communication is one of the most important work ethics to improve upon. Without communication, the production of work is impossible. One must communicate with coworkers to be sure that everything is running smoothly. With communication comes respect. If someone is disrespected, it could cause problems to arise among the employees. Everyone must remember to show respect to others.

People who feel as though their way is automatically the right way to do things must improve on their cooperation skills. They must take a moment to assess the other person’s ideas before making judgment. A good work environment and a good learning environment all revolves around cooperation skills. You have to be able to understand and discuss problems with your classmates and co-workers. If there is no cooperation among employees and classmates, everything would run awry.

There are always adjustments that can be made to improve each of these traits. Without constant improvements, production will be at a standstill. If an employee always improves his or her ethics, the workplace will continue to thrive in a positive manner. These ten simple traits can make or break an individual, and also a company.
