Wilson Prostaff Golf Clubs Review

Best Putters, Golf Clubs

Let me start off this review by saying that as someone who had just started playing golf, these were really terrific to start out with. I had been hitting golf balls for years, just not well, and at the range. I was a novice, and I still am, but better due to these. But these, which I’ve had for just over a year, we’re some of the best “beginner” clubs that they are. I went to my local sporting goods store looking for a relatively inexpensive set of golf clubs that were a base set, or in other words, all the same brand, and pretty much identical looking. I came across the Wilson Prostaff series, and pretty much knew that it was what I wanted. It was an excellent price, just over $200, on sale. A terrific price, and had nearly all the pieces needed to go out and play. It didn’t come with a putter or a sand wedge, but putters can be pretty specific items to deal with, everybody likes something different. And some people don’t even feel a sand wedge is necessary, but one recommended. Overall, you could buy these, buy a putter, and a bag, and be ready to golf.

Now to discuss the Wilson Prostaff clubs themselves, I’ll start off with a review of the Wilson Prostaff Driver. The Wilson Prostaff Driver is 10.5 degrees, and is truly large. There’s really no way to miss the ball with this driver, it has a flex staff, which is nice, especially for people just starting out. It’s a great driver, and if you choose to continue with golf, and really have a knack for it, then this Driver is usable for most of your career. The Wilson Prostaff fairway woods are also flex staff and have very large heads, they aren’t a club I use too much, but if I ever need it, I know that I’ll be able to hit it.

Another great part of the Wilson Prostaff Golf Clubs is that they come with 2 hybrids. For those that don’t know, hybrids are essentially 3 and 4 irons with larger heads, almost like fairway woods, and they are much easier to hit than irons. I really could write an entire review about the hybrids alone, they are so useful, and so easy to hit. But that wouldn’t be a very in-depth or important review, now would it. The hybrids are also flex staff, and for a person of any level of skill they are excellent clubs. For extremely good hybrids, despite being over priced, they could run for as much as $200 just for them. That alone shows the true value of the Wilson Prostaff Set.

Now onto the review of the Wilson Prostaff irons, they are truly great quality. The are steel shaft, and the head has a deep cavity. It is evident that the clubs are well worth the money, they are heavy, but not too heavy. The angle of each iron is right on, and for steel shaft irons, they are pretty easy to hit. There are 5 through 9 irons, and there is also a pitching wedge.

There is more to golf clubs than the heads and shafts, I’ll now review the grips. Grips can be a really specific desire, so if you know exactly what you’re looking for in grips, then continue to read the rest of the review before going out and buying the clubs. They are labeled as Wilson Grips, but I’m not completely convinced that they aren’t Winn grips. The color may be a bit strange to people, they are a tan/brown color, instead of the typical black, but they match the blue or silver of the shaft. But hey, I’m not here to review the style of the clubs, just to review how well they play. They are extremely soft, and unlike some grips, they aren’t affected by wetness, for instance sweat, and I’ve never felt like I almost let one slip out of my hand. I’ve unfortunately felt that sensation with some other clubs. They may not be your style of grip, but hopefully after reading the rest of this review, you’ll go out and give them a chance.

Overall, to conclude this review, the Wilson Prostaff Golf Clubs are an excellent an inexpensive set not only for someone to start playing golf, but really anyone who enjoys the game. My only gripe is that they don’t come with a golf bag, but this can be overlooked due to the extremely affordable price. If you’re looking to learn to play golf, I heartily recommend the Wilson Prostaff set, and of course, good lessons. Never forget, practice makes perfect.
