Rihanna's Top 5 Songs

Um-ba-rella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh. Rihanna, the Barbadian singer whose huge 2007 hit, “Umbrella”, took the world by storm, needs no introduction. It’s hard to believe that Rihanna’s big break came about just for being in the right place, at the right time.

At the tender age of 15, Rihanna was introduced to a record executive who was in Barbados on vacation. One thing led to another and before she knew it her music landed on the desk of none other than hip-hop royalty’s Jay-Z. She signed with Jay-Z’s label, Def Jam and soon after released her debut album, Music of the Sun.

Other albums soon followed including, A Girl like Me, which spun off the hits, “SOS”, “Unfaithful” and “We Ride”. Her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad gave us the hits, “Umbrella”, “Shut Up and Drive”, “Don’t Stop the Music”, “Hate That I Love You” and “Breakin’ Dishes.

Since then, Rihanna has gone on to break records such as being the first female Barbadian to receive a Grammy and her single, “Don’t Stop The Music”, is the only song to ever hit #1 in Australia before it was even officially released.

She has received countless awards such as World Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Barbados Music Awards and of course the coveted Grammy Award.

In 2006, Rihanna was given the opportunity to tour with The Pussycat Dolls and The Black Eyed Peas.

The following year, Rihanna was named Gillette’s 2007 Venus Breeze “Celebrity Legs of a Goddess. Her legs were insured for $1,000,000.

2008 is turning out to be a busy year for Rihanna as well. Not only is she scheduled to head back into the studio to begin work on her fourth studio album (to be released in 2009) but she also launched her Umbrella tote line at Macy’s. She was also given the honor of having her own national holiday in Barbados. From now on, February 21st (Rihanna’s birthday) will be celebrated as Rihanna day.

Although she’s still young, Rihanna, who follows in the footsteps of other one-name acts such as Madonna, Cher and Beyonce, is sure to have a long and successful career in front of her.
