It’s a fact that music is an integral part of our lives. We listen to music during our commutes, cleaning house, doing homework, and at so many other times and places. So where can you go to find free music to download that is legal? There are actually several resources available. Some of them require you to sign up, but others have free downloads available without registration.

http://www.myspace.com – Sign up and let free music find you. You have the option to let bands invite you to become their friend, or you can search for your favorite type of music yourself. Many bands have songs available for download, or at least available to place on our Myspace profile.

http://www.freeplaymusic.com – A great site for an extensive assortment of music which is available for free download for home, private, personal, non commercial use. You can search by style, feel, or use the advanced search to define by volume and/or tempo as well.

http://www.soundclick.com – Sign up and find great music for several different genres. You do need to pay attention, though, because not all songs are available for free download. Bands and artists have the option to make their music available only as streaming, as a paid download from the SoundClick store, or as a free download.

http://www.ez-tracks.com – A legal free music download site boasting over 30,000 songs. You also have the option to add your favorite song to your Myspace profile. Note, however, that not all songs are performed by the original artists.

http://www.artistserver.com – Neatly arranged categories, broken down not only be genre but also by sub-genres. It is easy to find your favorite kinds of music available for free download. You can also sign up for free and have your own blog, radio station, profile page and more.

http://www.yourmp3.net – A huge collection of free music from artists in several genres. You have the option to donate an amount of your choosing, minimum of $1, to help keep the site free. The site does have pop-ups, if you don’t use a pop-up blocker.

http://music.download.com – This site isn’t just for software. They actually provide a variety of music categories, which also includes comedy and spoken word. You can pick your favorite genre, browse all artists, then find the free tracks they have available.

With all the recent copyright infringement stories and fears, many people are nervous about downloading music free from the internet. But finding the kinds of music you love has gotten much easier, and far more affordable (you can’t beat free!), than ever. Whether you’re on a very tight budget, or just want to try before you buy, these sites are great resources for listening to music from just about any genre.
