What Do Lady Gaga’s Weird Lyrics Mean?

Disco

A lot of people are confused by Lady Gaga’s lyrics. The explicitly sexual references we all understand, though some of her more “creative” phrases could leave a few people feeling like they’ve had a little bit too much red wine. This article has been crafted to enlighten a few of the more loyal but stumped Lady Gaga fans.

Disco stickThis phrase, found in Lady Gaga’s song “Love Game,” refers to a male sexual organ. Why does Lady Gaga think a disco stick conjures images of this nature? One theory is that you “get down” at a disco, and from the context surrounding “disco stick” which runs as “Let’s have some fun, this beat is sick/ I wanna take a ride on your disco stick,” you can assume Lady Gaga is getting down on the disco stick, or having sex. Furthermore, Lady Gaga goes on to write “Don’t think too much, just bust that stick”, which may either indicate the she wishes the owner make his disco stick visible or for him to climax. The exact meaning isn’t clear because of Lady Gaga’s affinity for ambiguity and clever word play.

Poker face Perhaps even more notorious than disco sticks are Lady Gaga’s “poker faces” as she has an entire song dedicated to the concept. However, unlike a disco stick, a poker face is slightly more straightforward. Lady Gaga’s song “Poker Face” is about concealing ulterior motives, as someone may do if attempting to win a poker game (the phrase poker face is not a novelty to Lady Gaga; people have been using the phrase as long as they’ve been trying to bluff their way through poker games). Why, though, would Lady Gaga sing about a poker face? She brings a new context; that of manipulation during a romance. Lady Gaga uses her poker face to keep men (and women; Lady Gaga is bisexual) from knowing how deeply she cares for them so that their uncertainty will not die away. The singer uses her poker face to keep men interested and is therefore a weapon for romantic success.

Glue Gunnin’ On the topic of poker faces, Lady Gaga’s song “Poker Face” actually contains another interesting lyric. Later on she sings “I’m not lyin’ / I’m just stunnin’ with my love glue gunnin'” which may leave fans a bit puzzled. This is easy enough to understand, however, if the above definitions are already understood. Lady Gaga is simply referring to an ejaculating disco stick in a silly and nonchalant way, characteristic of her poker face and attitude. But why glue gunnin? Glue guns produce a substance similar is color and texture of a stunnin’ (and comin’) disco stick.

Cherry Cherry Boom Boom “Cherry cherry boom boom” deviates from this article’s previous explanations of Lady Gaga’s “poker face” exterior, as these lyrics are far less crude than “disco stick” and “glue gunnin'”. The song “Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)” is actually a cute tune about Lady Gaga’s frivolous romantic exploits. The phrase “Cherry cherry boom boom” may refer to a loss in virginity (going back to the phrase “popping cherries”) but is probably also used because the term simply sounds innocent (cherries having a sexual and female connotation while still being sweet and not intimidatingly because they are a tiny fruit). Thus, but saying “cherry cherry boom boom”, lady Gaga is stating her youth and innocence.
