Brushing your teeth is kind of a big part of your life, isn’t it? If you’re like me, you brush your teeth every morning, and every night, and sometimes more than that if you get a bad taste in your mouth. That’s well over 700 times a year. Ideally, one toothbrush should be replaced every thirty days. This is due to wear and tear on the toothbrush, as well as the germs that can accumulate on the brush, not only from the person’s mouth, but from airborne droplets of moisture in the bathroom, sneezing, coughing, and even water from the toilet when it flushes! That’s where Violight comes in handy!
Now, what is Violight, you may ask? Violight is an incredibly innovative company that sells toothbrush sanitizers that have been proven to kill up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses, including the virus responsible for H1N1!
Violight saw a need that wasn’t being fulfilled, a need to keep ourselves and our families, healthy and safe from unnecessary exposure to germs and viruses (such as the ones that enter the air when you flush the toilet, eww!) and they took action! They developed a variety of toothbrush sanitizers for the entire family! For at home, or on the go. For one, or a few.
Violight has made the effort to make a germ and virus killing health aid, look sleek and attractive as well! It’s easy to want to use something for the health benefits it provides, but when the design of that product is less than to be desired, it gets a little harder to want to use it. Violight recognized this, and came up with very modern and attractive designs for their products! In fact, they even have sanitizers that are aimed towards children, as well!
These children’s sanitizers, called “Zapi,” come with a varity of stickers, making decorating and customizing their toothbrush sanitizer something fun for the kids!
Now, I bet you’re thinking, “Well, that sounds great. They look nice and all, but do I reall need a toothbrush sanitizer?”

Now that’s just crazy! Ten million bacteria on a single toothbrush? As sad as it is, it makes sense. Most bacteria and viruses live anywhere from a couple hours to a few days, but die once they lack the moisture they need to survive. Think about it, you brush your teeth at 8am and then again at 8pm, so you’re adding moisture to the germs on your toothbrush that would have otherwise died! I had the opportunity to review the “Travel Toothbrush Sanitizer,” and I must say, I really enjoyed it.
It was sleek looking, and fit into my purse (okay… I put it in my diaper bag. You got me.) and it was easy to take places. Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I tend to rummage through my bags looking for things, so I definitely appreciated the curved corners! If you’re a “rummager” you know what its like having sharp corners dig into your hand while you’re searching! Now, I don’t go places where I need to brush my teeth much, but it was nice being able to.
I decided to use the sanitizer even at home. After all, I don’t need to be going places to appreciate a germ and virus-free toothbrush! The travel toothbrush sanitizer take’s AA-batteries, and all you do when you’re done brushing your teeth is shake off the excess water, place it in the prongs that help hold it in place, and then shut the lid! Voila! And six minutes later your toothbrush is ready! And of course, in between uses, you should lift up the drip tray, rinse it, dry it, and use a washcloth or other sanitary cloth to clean out the area of the holder that water goes under the drip tray.
My favorite part about it (aside from the fact it kills germs and viruses), was that it’s so enclosed. When you close the case, it’s closed. Nothing is going to get into it, and the lid holds shut pretty well! Even with typical non-germ-and-virus-killing toothbrush cases, I’ve experienced a lot of issues with keeping the toothbrush enclosed, and keeping stuff from getting into it. With the travel toothbrush sanitizer, I don’t have to worry about that at all! It kills the germs, and it’s secure!
Now, when I first started using it, I was a little worried about the UV light. I thought that it would just stay on as long as the case was closed and that I would end up going through batteries like crazy, but it didn’t! The light only stays on as long as it needs to (6 minutes) to sanitize your toothbrush!
Now, the travel sanitizer came with a free violight toothbrush, which I also loved! It was almost as cool as the sanitizer itself! It had a sleek design and nice color, but the cool part was, there’s a suction cup built into the bottom of the toothbrush, ensuring that you never have to lay your toothbrush on a dirty counter top ever again! I don’t know about you, but with two kids in my house, and our washer in our bathroom… I don’t even want to think about what could be lurking on my counter tops!
My Overall Review Based on five factors, each ranging from one star to five stars which are then averaged out, the Violight Toothbrush Sanitizer received 4.4 stars!
Fulfills Purpose Well – 5 Stars Although there really is no way for me to prove that it really is killing germs in my home, I trust them. The lightbulb shuts off when it’s done. The case is secure. The batteries last quite a while. Overall, it does what its supposed to do.
Designs & Visual Appeal – 5 Stars The travel toothbrush sanitizer looks nice. It’s sleek, silver, with nice curves. It looks attractive.
Ease of Use – 5 Stars The travel toothbrush sanitizer was incredibly easy to use. Brush your teeth. Shake off excess water, place in the case, and close the lid. That simple! Anyone could do it!
Affordability – 4 Stars The travel toothbrush sanitizer runs for $29.95 with an optional $6.95 two year warranty. Although this may seem like a lot for a toothbrush case, when the health benefits are taken into account, as well as the lifespan of the device, it’s not a bad deal.
Earth-Friendliness – 3 Stars Now, they scored lower on this one, simply for the fact that it’s run by batteries. Although the batteries last quite a while, it would be even cooler if they could come up with a rechargable, or even solar charged toothbrush sanitizer.
