Vintage Wood Dice Candle Votive: A Game Room Craft Project

Glass Jar

This simple Vintage Wood Dice candle votive is the perfect gift that you can make for the hostess who loves to host game nights with the family, poker night with the guys or girls, and even the occasional bridge night with the girls. Almost anyone I know would love to get this beautiful and whimsical Vintage Wood Dice candle votive.

You can find vintage wood dice at flea markets readily. If not though, just buy a bag at the craft store. You can rub on a coat of wood gel stain and you have instant age!

Overall it should take about 30 minutes or less to make the whole project. The best part of this simple Vintage Wood Dice candle votive is that it uses empty glass food jars you might have leftover in the kitchen.

To Make This Simple Vintage Wood Dice Candle Votive For a Hostess Gift You Will Need:

Empty Spaghetti or Pickle Jar (no lids)

Vintage Wood Dice (lots of them)

Hot glue or tacky glue

Ribbon

Candle (Pillar Candle or tea candle)

Now, the first step is to thoroughly clean your glass food jar. I like to use an ammonia base cleaner to make sure I get all of the sticky food label off of the outside of the empty glass jar.

Now, plug in your hot glue gun.

Go ahead and lay out your Vintage Wood Dice. You can play around with how many dots will be facing out. You can make some interesting designs playing around with the design of the dots, so have a little fun!

The good thing about using hot glue is that you can easily pop the Vintage Wood Dice off if you need it back!

Now, Squeeze out some glue onto the back (bottom wide side) of the Vintage Wood Dice. Press the Vintage Wood Dice into the outside of the glass food jar. I like to start on the bottom edge of the glass jar and work my way up gluing on the Vintage Wood Dice.

Now, work around and around the glass jar. Work up attaching the Vintage Wood Dice pieces until you get about 2/3 of the glass jar. Leave the top few inches plain.

Now, tie your ribbon around the mouth of the jar. You want to choose a ribbon that covers the mouth of the jar where the lids screws on. This will create more finished Vintage Wood Dice candle votive that makes a good gift.

Now, tie your ribbon off in a bow. Cut of the excess ribbon at an angle with your scissors or pinking shears.

I like the ribbon to be short.

Slip a tea candle or pillar candle into the Vintage Wood Dice candle votive and you are finished.

For a whimsical or contemporary look try using clear reddish colored dice with the white dots that you spray paint all one glossy color, like bright pink or Kelly green. Find a plaid vintage ribbon in those colors to match. When the dice dry use a paint pen to color in the dots in an unexpected color.

For a shabby chic look try painting all of the Dice in an antique white color. Use sand paper to rough it up a little. Then, rub some wood gel stain or wood tinted wax on the inexpensive dice. Create at least three of these candle votives and display them on your poker table.

Don’t forget you will be able to see any glue that leaks out form behind the Vintage Wood Dice, so do not put so much that it squishes out on the sides.

Also, try to butt the Vintage Wood Dice up next to each other on the candle votive as close as they will go.
