How to Make Scented Gel Seashell Candles

Candle Wax, Gel Candles, Glass Jar

I just redid my guest room bathroom and I wanted to go with a beach theme. When I went to the store to purchase the “beach themed” bathroom items I saw how expensive the things were. The most expensive were the three scented seashell gel candles, they were priced at $14.99 each. I don’t know about you but that’s a little rich for my blood. I’ve been making my own candles at home for years and decided to make my own scented seashell gel candles. Here is a simple and easy to follow how to guide for them.

Here are the supplies you’re going to need:

Thin long wooden dowel
A stove or a hot plate
Liquid candle dye (color of your choice)
Scent (if you want it and any scent of your choice)
Glass jars (to pour your gel into)
A cooking thermometer
A melting pot for the wax
Free tab wicks
Mixing spoon (one you wont be using for cooking again)
Candle gel wax
Hot glue gun
Tape
Measuring spoons
Seashells

Instructions:

Step 1:
Using your glue gun put some hot glue on the bottom side of your wicks base then attach your wick to the inside of the jar in the bottom center of the glass jar.

Step 2:
Now take the thin long wooden dowel and put it inside the glass jar and attach the wick to the dowel using a small piece of clear tape.

Step 3:
Now take your candle wax gel and place it into your melting pot along with your cooking thermometer.

Step 4:
Heat the candle gel wax to 250F and be sure to maintain that temperature until the gel turns into a clear liquid, stir occasionally.

Step 5:
Using your mixing spoon stir in ¼ teaspoon full of the fragrance to your candle wax gel and continue to maintain the temperature at 250F. Stir the candle gel wax for 30 seconds to help blend in the scent.

Step 6:
Stir in ¼ teaspoon full of liquid candle dye. Stir for 30 seconds to blend the color in.

Step 7:
Now stir you Candle gel wax for two minutes, doing so assures that the candle will not appear cloudy looking and the color and scent will be evenly distributed throughout.

Step 8:
Remove the gel from heat and allow it to cool down to a core temperature of 200F.

Step 9:
Once it has cooled down you can pour it into your glass jar. Pour it in slowly into the jar so you can add the your seashells and make sure the the candle gel wax is going in evenly throughout the jar. Fill the jar ¼ of the way before removing the wooden dowel from the wick and the jar. Continue filling up the jar until it is ¼ inch from the top. Let your candle fry completely for 4 hours and it’s ready to be used.

*Tips:
Be sure not to use more scent or color then specified, it could cause a fire.
