Velocity Cleanser by Mary Kay Cleared My Skin Fast

Problem Skin

I have issues with my skin. Major issues. My skin is extremely tempermental. It doesn’t matter what cleanser I use, I need to change it every two months. If I don’t, my face starts to look like a strawberry patch. Why? I have no idea.

It’s ironic, because I am a Field Executive for Aloette Cosmetics & Skin Care. Don’t get me wrong– I love their product. I was able to use the Gentle Foaming Cleanser for four months before I had to change. Then I went to the Clarifying Facial Wash, which I was able to use for three months. I tried to go back to the Gentle Foaming Cleanser, but my skin rebelled. It was time for something new.

Enter Julie Watanabe, a good friend of mine that happens to be a Mary Kay consultant. She gave me samples of different cleansers that Mary Kay offers. A couple of years ago, I used Timewise by Mary Kay, so I bought another tube to see if that would work. No such luck.

Julie happened to give me a sample of Velocity. I had just run out of my face wash, so I decided to give it a try.

The consistency is that of a gel. It’s kind of cloudy, but sits in the palm of your hand very nicely. And, it smells terrific: very light and clean. Since I was in the shower, my face was already wet. So, I applied the Velocity and started massaging in circles towards my nose to get the most effective cleaning. The lather was fantastic! It lathered immediately and made my skin feel very soft. I was surprised, however, when I started feeling some sort of exfoliant. Of course, I hadn’t read the label. Velocity is a three in one cleanser, and contains an exfoliator. It’s not too abrasive, but you can definitely feel it.

My faced rinsed clean immediately and didn’t leave behind any sort of residue. My face truly felt clean. I pat it dry with a white towel and followed with a toner. (Since it’s 3-in-1, you don’t really have to follow with a toner. It’s just habit for me. I like that extra clean feeling.) My skin felt great. And, there was a noticeable difference the next day. I was thrilled.

I definitely needed a moisturizer with Velocity, though. It did dry my skin out, and I could definitely tell after using it for a couple of days. But, I’ll deal with dryness over blemishes any day of the week. I just have to use a clarifying moisturizer. I know that there is a Velocity moisturizer and I’ve tried the sample, but I like Aloette better.

I have combination skin. I don’t necessarily consider my skin “problem skin,” but it tends to get that way when I’m really stressed out. And, believe me, I’ve been WAY stressed lately. Since the Velocity was only $10 for 5oz., I’ll stick with it until my skin decides that it wants yet another change.
