Various Ways to Lose Excess Water Weight

Water Weight

Excess water weight can cause you to feel bloated and uncomfortable as well as cause swelling around the feet, legs, ankles, wrists and hands.

If you have been looking for a way to lose excess water weight here are some things you can try.

Drink More Water

As ironic as this might sound, the more water your body consumes the more it will be willing to get rid of. When the body does not have enough water it tends to save and hang onto whatever it can which causes bloating. Drink at least 6 to 8 glass of water a day??.

Reduce Salt Intake

Excess salt in your system makes your body retain fluids. Aside from putting the salt shaker away there are many foods that contain a high amount of sodium that you should also avoid such as salted nuts, pickles, olives, hot dogs, frozen foods soy sauce, deli meats or even canned vegetables. While vegetables are normally good for you, the canned variety contains a lot of sodium, so opt for natural instead.

Eat Foods with Natural High Water Content

Luckily there are many vegetables you can eat that have a natural high water content. The more you consume these types of foods, the more your body will be willing to part with unneeded water. Foods that have a high natural water content include: Watermelon, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, artichokes, asparagus and brussel sprouts.

Avoid Alcohol

While at first, drinking alcohol may act as a diuretic, it then changes and causes dehydration which triggers your body to want to retain even more water. Do your best to avoid alcohol and replace with an herbal or green tea which is known to have healthy and natural diuretic properties.

Reduce Your Sugar Intake

Sugar is also known to cause excess water weight because it can raise insulin levels which decreases the body’s ability to get rid of sodium. Try to avoid excessive sugary foods such as sweetened cereals, cookies, cakes and especially diet soda, which is very high in fructose corn syrup.

Exercise

Exercise is another great way to get rid of excess water weight. Nothing works faster in ridding your body of excess water, salt and toxins then sweating it out during a good workout three or four times a week.

Try an Over the Counter Diuretic

If you have a special occasion to go to and want to drop the excess water weight quickly there are over-the-counter diuretics you can take that might help. It is important to remember however, that this is by no means a permanent solution. Taking these for a long period of time can cause more harm than good. It is also known to cause diarrhea, so keep this in mind before taking it. If you feel you must use these, then try to go for the more natural herbal pills found in your local health store.

Get a Body Wrap

Getting a body wrap in a salon is another good way to get rid of excess water weight quickly for a special occasion. Ace bandages are soaked in a special mineral solution then wrapped tightly around your body. You sit with the wrap on for at least an hour (and in some places are asked to do low impact exercise to increase body heat) and when the wrap comes off you will find that you might have actually lost a few inches all over your body. This too, however, is only a temporary solution. A healthy diet is a better way to rid yourself of excess water weight.

Go for a Sauna

Taking a sauna is another way to sweat out excess water and toxins. It also has the added benefit of being very relaxing. Again, however this should not be a stand alone practice. Combined with the right water intake, exercise and diet, you should have your excess water weight under control in no time.
