Vacationing in Fiji

Fiji

The country of Fiji is an island nation – or islands, as the case may be. Fiji is comprised of some 330 islands. Some are inhabited, but most are not, making them ripe for diving and adventurous exploration. When one thinks of an idyllic tropical vacation, Fiji is usually somewhere at the top of the list. But what does Fiji really have to offer? And if you’ve never been there but want to, where do you start?

What To Do In Fiji

Fiji offers a surprising variety of entertainment and activities for travelers to enjoy. The Sabeto Hot Springs, located halfway between Nadi and Lautoka, are a special treat. Mud bathing in the natural springs is said to rejuvenate the mind and body. Monuriku Island is another special spot, as it’s the location that Tom Hank’s movie Castaway was filmed and travelers are free to explore the movie’s tropical backdrop.

If you want to walk on the really wild side, take on the Aquatrek Shark Feed Dive in Beqa Lagoon. That’s right, a shark dive. You’ll see the sharks in their own environment, and not just harmless nurse sharks, either. Bull sharks and, sometimes, tiger and white tip sharks make an appearance. You can also tour a pearl farm or cultural village while in the area.

If you want to get in touch with Fiji’s inland natural wonders, there are plenty of other activities, too. Zip lining through the jungle offers an adrenaline rush and a great view of unspoiled jungle and wildlife. Safaris are also a lot of fun, where you can enjoy the jungle’s ambiance while checking out the plants and animals that live there.

Where To Stay

Fiji offers an extensive variety of places to stay, including bed and breakfasts, hotels, resorts, hostels, budget hotels and camping. With this sort of variety, travelers can find a place to stay that fits their budget, whatever it may be.

For instance, the Fiji Horizons Backpackers Center has an interesting motto – “spend a night, not a fortune”. A standard room is only $50.00 per night, but accommodations can range from $15.00 per night to $155.00 per night, depending on how many are in your party and what level of comfort you want to stay in. The Horizons Center in Fiji offers more amenities by far than most hostels, including free golf, a light breakfast, airport meet and pickup, use of all the facilities at the nearby beach, internet and a pool.

If you want to go all-out and stay in true luxury, a Fiji luxury resort such as the Matangi Private Island Resort would make an ideal getaway. Matangi is located in the southeast region of Vanua Levu. As stated in the name, it is nestled on a private tropical island – a dream getaway for many. The tri-level treehouses at Matangi cost approximately $900.00 per night. A beachfront bure (or thatched hut) will run less, at roughly $690.00 per night. Snorkeling and scuba diving are two favorite activities on Matangi, and a tour of the local waterfall is both romantic and exhilarating. Spending time at the Matangi Island’s spa is also a great way to relax in Fiji.

As you can see, Fiji offers much to do and many different types of accommodation to meet the needs of any traveler, from students to honeymooners to retirees. Fiji is a great place to consider for your next vacation and is a jungle nation with much to offer.
