Updated Review: Straight Talk Cellular

Free 411

A few months ago, I wrote a review about Straight Talk Cellular Phone Service. It’s the latest no contract cell phone service that can be easily purchased on-line at straighttalk.com or conveniently at any Wal-Mart store or walmart.com.

They have two main plans. One being a $30 per month no contract plan that gives you 1000 nationwide, anytime minutes, 1000 text or picture messages, 30 MB Internet, and free 411 calling. The other plan is a $45 per month, no contract plan that gives you UNLIMITED talk, text or picture messages, Internet, and 411 calling. They have now added three more Unlimited options. You can now get a 3 months (90 days) of unlimited service for an upfront payment of $135, or 6 months (180 days) of unlimited service for an upfront payment of $270, or 1 year (365 days) of unlimited service for an upfront payment of $540. These plans are great because you pay exactly the amount that is stated. There are no hidden fees or surcharges. Also, the option to pay for service for the next 3, 6, or 12 months is great for those that like to pay bills in advance to have one less worry each month.

Straight Talk also has three different ways to pay your bill. These are two easy ways to pay at straighttalk.com by credit card. You can make a credit card payment at each due date to refill your minutes. You can also sign up for auto-refill. Auto-refill will automatically bill your credit card on each due date so that you never have to worry about making the payment yourself. The last way to make a payment is to pick up a minute refill card at your local Wal-Mart or at walmart.com. Then you go to straighttalk.com or call Straight Talk and follow the directions and just like that, your minutes are refilled.

I mentioned in my last review that they didn’t have a wide selection of phones to choose from. Well,to update, they have added even more phones to straighttalk.com that have more up-to-date technology. For example, they now carry an LG touch phone with so many features. They also carry slider phones at reasonable prices I will warn you though, to be sure to ask about the data capabilities of the phone you plan to purchase before buying the phone. I say this because I purchased a LG-C100 for my husband and his phone was unable to download ringtones or receive picture messages. So be sure to research the phone before you purchase it.

Straighttalk.com offers ringtones on their website to be purchased by credit card only. In reviewing the ringtone options, I have found that they do offer great songs, but they still don’t a a wide variety of ringtones. Because Straight Talk is still fairly new, I’m sure in the near future they will begin to add a better selection of ringtones to their website.

As for customer service, I have to say that I am impressed with how nice they are and how quickly they answer you call to fix whatever problem you may have. Especially compared to other cellular companies. You don’t have to sit on hold forever waiting for someone to help you. And even better, you always talk to a person, never a computer! They are very helpful with any question you may have and will explain everything to you in a way you can understand.

All-in-all, I highly recommend Straight Talk to anyone and everyone! Because it taps into Verizon towers, you get services almost everywhere- including rural areas! You also just can’t beat their prices. In just the last 6 months, we have saved $264 on our cell phone bill. For $89 per month with another cellular company, all we got was 1000 anytime minutes, 500 text messages, and no Internet service. Now for only $45 per month with Straight Talk, we get unlimited talk, text, and Internet. I love the service, the ease of use, and the amount of money I save every month. The only way Straight Talk Cellular could be better is if they were to have a better selection of ringtones and offered a talk and text only plan for $20 to $25 per month. I personally love this service.
