Treat and Ease Earaches Naturally

Goldenseal, MGS, Mullein

Earaches can be caused by a number of things like infections or allergies, or even toothaches, which can cause pain in the ear. And although earaches are more common in infants and children, adults can suffer from a bout of earaches every now and then. There are a number of natural remedies that can help cure a nagging earache. The first is garlic. A dose of garlic oil can help treat and ease the pain of an earache. You can either take two 500 mg capsules orally a day for seven days or you can squeeze the oil out of the capsule, apply it to a cotton ball and leave the cotton ball in your ear for an hour. Do this twice, once during the day and once at night.

To increase garlic oil’s effectiveness in easing earaches, try adding some mullein to the treatment. The garlic oil is a natural disinfectant; the mullein oil smoothes the skin of the ear reducing swelling and easing pain. You can add the mullein oil to a cotton ball or apply it directly in the ear every three or four hours. One of the best ways to treat and even prevent earaches is to strengthen your immune system. The way to do this is to be sure you are taking enough vitamins and supplements. Take 500 mgs of vitamin C three times a day. Take 25,000 ius twice a day for five days, and then reduce the dosage to 5,000 to 10,000 ius a day. Consult with a physician before taking high doses of vitamin A.

A couple of more vitamins to take to prevent and treat earaches is zinc, vitamin E, and vitamin B. Take 15 mgs of zinc a day, 50 mgs of most of the B vitamins, and 200 to 400 ius of vitamin E a day. Taking these supplements every day will not only help treat earaches but prevent them as well. A Qigong massage can help ease earaches. Just put your middle finger in front of your ear and your index finger behind the ear, forming a V-shape. Starting at the base of the ear, move your fingers in an upwardly motion, pressing firmly, then release the pressure as you move your fingers downward. Do this 36 times. This massage will help increase the circulation in and around your ear. It also allows fluid to move more freely from the cells.

Taking Echinacea and Goldenseal together can help treat and ease earaches. Echinacea works like an antibacterial and goldenseal helps dry up the liquid buildup in the ear. Inhaling essential oils can work great to ease the pain and clear up earaches. Lavender essential oil is recommended by some alternative doctors because it works like an antiseptic maintaining the immune system. Fill a bowl with boiling water and add three to five drops of oil to the water. Lean over the bowl and inhale for five to ten minutes. You can do this as often as you like to help treat your earache.
