Traditional colleges offer you classroom participation and sometimes hands on experience. You have the ability to talk to your professors in person and possibly have one on one help if need be. You will also share in the interaction of your follow classmates and join study groups. You will also have use of college library’s, study resources, and the push of people standing over you to motivate you to have your work completed. You will need to be at your classes when they are scheduled and there is not a lot of room for absences during these classes.
While online colleges offer you more flexibility for the person who is raising a family or working but you will need to have better time management skills as no one will be there pushing you on a day to day basis. There is no time constriction of when a course can be taken. You will need a much higher level of discipline when it comes to online colleges and the drive to be self motivated.
Online colleges are not for everyone as the course material is the same as a traditional college you need to be able to push yourself instead of having others push you to get things done. Both offer you the interaction with professors and the way most online colleges are now handling their courses you even have the interaction with other students through certain computer platform software.
If you are not the type who can easily motivate yourself or your time management is lacking traditional colleges may be the way for your to head as those two major things are a very high need for online colleges.
The other worry between online and traditional is accreditation. Today you will find a lot of schools online but is their accreditation good? This is something you need to look into and to understand because if you follow through and earn your “degree” and the schools accreditation is lacking you will find your degree is worthless and none of the credits you took will transfer to any other school as they will become worthless. The best choice you can make if you choose an online college is to also choose one that has ties to a traditional college. In other words look for a traditional college that offers degrees online. This way you know the accreditation is good and all your credits will be transferable if you choose to change colleges or to go on and further your education even more.
You have to weigh your options and decide what is best for you and always research this way you will know what you are getting yourself into. Talk with tons of schools and ask them about their programs. Make sure you feel comfortable with the work you will be asked to do. Find out if their is support during your online education and if a problem arises will someone be able to assist you. When getting an education online its not like you can walk into someone’s office and ask for help. You will be bound to phone calls and email’s for any help that you may need.
