By far the best Mexican restaurant in Helena Montana is Melaque. The restaurant serves Sonora style Mexican that most pallets in the US find truly Mexican. The recipes actually are from Chiapas. The taste is superb. I have eaten here many times and each time I go with friends the staff and the food is way above average. The price is very reasonable the dinner and lunch menu are the same. The entrees are served with rice and beans run between $ 5.95 and $12.
The dinner menu and the lunch menu are similar. Monday through Saturday the restaurant is open from 11:00 to 9:30 PM. Sundays 4:00 to 9:00 PM.
My favorite on the menu is chili relleno. I am kind of a chili relleno fan. I have had them all over the US and Melaque knows just how to get the right fluff on the outside shell, (egg white, flour and milk mixture) This is the real trick of excellent chili relleno. The whole green chilies are soft and stuffed with cheese. The red sauce is beyond description. In addition the plate can include rice and beans. The price for a complete meal is about $7.
Other entrees are chicken and beef enchiladas, burritos that are delectable. The chimichangas are crisp on the outside and covered in sauce that can only be described as heavenly. All can be ordered ala carte or with a full meal.
Besides the food being exceptional, the staff is attendant to your every need. If you want a side of sour cream, salsa, or just about anything all you have to do is ask. Your water glass will never go dry. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone because I have always had a great experience.

Another Mexican restaurant in Helena is Taco Treat that has a variety of luncheon selections that are good. The price is very reasonable. Lunch is less than $6 and is ideal for people who are limited by time. The food is well prepared and easily accessible. The restaurant is located at: 1820 Prospect Ave, Helena. Another Mexican restaurant located on Canyon Ferry Road is Los Cazadores. The food is authentic Mexican and I have taken several out of state business acquaintances to the restaurant. The food is quite good. The seating could be better.
It is set up so you place your order at the counter and then the food is brought to your table.
Another time we waited and then were told we should have come to the counter to pick up the food. While we were seated, the male owner of the establishment carried on a conversation from behind the counter with another male customer seated at a table next to ours about someone they knew and the persons’ personal problems. Afterwards, my visiting client said, Phew!
