Park hours are generally open before sunrise, to 10 p.m, and can be a great activity for a weekend or post-work relaxation. #1: Olbrich Beach, 3527 Atwood Ave.
Olbirich beach is located adjacent to Olbrich Park on Lake Monona. Madison’s east side park is popular for lakefront activities including pontoon boats, rafting, canoeing and recreational games in the neighboring sports facility. Fishing and a boat launch are available near the beach, and the beach itself is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. during the season.
#2: Tenney Beach, 1254 Sherman Ave.
Tenney Park and Tenney Beach feature a low-key, relaxing atmosphere on Madison’s east side with its recognizable bridge and friendly atmosphere. Bordering Lake Mendota, Tenney Beach is a popular choice for weddings and large groups who enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. Games and other local events are available in the nearby park, and the beach serves as a great place to enjoy the lagoon and historic park in the surrounding area. Tenney Beach is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. during the season.
Vilas Park is actually one of Madison’s oldest parks, and has been a popular place for is two piers, plenty of scenic drives, and natural sandy beach. Tennis courts and picnic tables are just a handful activity options near Vilas Beach, and the zoo found on the hill nearby will entice the young adventurers! Overlooking lake Wingra, the beach is open during season from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
#4: James Madison Beach, 614 E. Gorham Street
When you find yourself in the heart downtown Madison, you can still take part in the beachfront area of James Madison Park. The twelve acres of park area also provide volleyball courts, a playground, and lush trees to nap under. The beach area is open from 12:30-4:30 during the season.
#5: Olin Beach, 1155 Olin-Turville Court
Sitting on the edge of Lake Monona at Olin Park is a treat for any weekend; the park is often reserved for weddings, community gatherings, and picnics, and provides plenty of walking and jogging trails through scenic grounds. The Olin Pavilion is a popular choice for other community events and groups. The beach itself is popular during the summer, and attracts tourists and local visitors alike. Olin Beach is open daily from 12:30-4:30 during the season.
