Top Concealed Carry Handguns for a New Gun Owner

Concealed Carry, Personal Defense, Ruger

Concealed carry is becoming more and more popular in states all across the country, and for good reason; few things are as important as the safety of you and your loved ones. Deciding on what handgun to purchase can be a bit daunting to a first-time gun buyer, so hopefully this short list of quality options provides you with a nice starting point.

Glock 29
Approximate price: $700 – $750

Quality craftsmanship from one of the best gun manufacturers on earth, the Glock 29 is a sub-compact pistol in 10mm that packs a real punch. With an overall length of just under seven inches, the Model 29 holds a whopping ten rounds. As with most Glock products, this pistol offers up a relatively simplistic, no-frills design that can be broken down and cleaned easily. If you are looking for a good balance of stopping power, compact size and capacity; this gun is a great option.

Ruger LCP
Approximate price: $300

The LCP is a reliable, well-built pocket pistol that won’t break the bank. This weapon is seriously lightweight, tipping the scales at just over half a pound, unloaded. Available in .380 ACP, this little guy has gained quite the following since its release in 2008 for one reason; it does exactly what it’s advertised to do, and it does it well. If you’re looking for a nice little target pistol then move along; however, if personal defense is your main goal, there aren’t many guns out there that will outperform the LCP for this price.

Kel-Tec P-11
Approximate price: $250

The P-11 is a great pistol for those who want a decent 9mm but don’t want to drop the coin on something like a Glock or Kahr. Having owned a P-11 for many years myself, I can speak to the long-term quality of this pistol first hand. This particular model has been on the market for quite some time but never fails to impress me when I pick it up. The P-11 comes standard with a 10 round magazine, but higher capacity mags are available as well. Two of the best characteristics pertaining to this gun would have to be Kel-Tec’s renowned customer service and the gun’s relatively low price point.

Kahr Arms PM9
Approximate price: $700 – $800

Admittedly, it’s a pricey play, but this pistol is worth every penny. Having shot a PM9 more than a few times, one thing that always impressed me was the overall feel of the weapon. When the extended seven-round magazine was inserted, there didn’t seem to be that “awkward” discomfort associated with other, similar sized pistols. You can put a couple hundred rounds through this gun in one outing and not return home feeling like your hand is going to fall off. There are a few different models of the PM9 available, each boasting various bells and whistles. Whether it’s night sights, a laser sight or a loaded chamber indicator that interest you, all are available in various combinations straight from the factory.

There are tons of other quality products on the market today, but hopefully these four options start you off on the right track.
