When Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler and Monica first appeared on our screens in September 1994, they captured the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide. We watched as Ross and Rachel’s relationship began, ended and began again, saw Joey’s acting career take off, smiled as the ever unlucky in love Monica and Chandler got together and cried tears of happiness as Phoebe finally found the family she had been missing for so long. Friends began trends, who could forget the famous “Rachel” haircut? And Joey’s chat up-line “How you doin’?” is now legendary! Seventeen years after the pilot episode was aired, the show is still as popular as ever, and so I would like to take you on a journey of my Top Ten Funniest Episodes of Friends!

1. The One Where Chandler Can’t Remember Which Sister (Season 3) – This episode sees a very drunk Chandler getting together with one of Joey’s seven sisters. Unfortunately he was so hammered that he couldn’t remember which sister! Trying to make amends for his mistake, he goes to Joey’s grandmother’s house to see if he can figure out which Tribbiani lady he spent the night with. Hilarity ensues when Chandler gets confused once again and winds up kissing yet another of his best friend’s sisters!

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: It’s very rare to see drunk Chandler and it only served to make him funnier!

2. The One Where Paul’s The Man (Season Six) – Ross’ much younger girlfriend Elizabeth takes him away to her father’s cabin in the countryside in spite of her father Paul telling Ross to keep away from his daughter. Unbeknownst to the couple, Paul and Rachel have decided to go away to the cabin too. Elizabeth does her best to keep Ross out of sight of her father until she can sneak him out, but of course, they get found out, making Paul mad until Ross threatens to reveal that he saw Paul dancing to ‘Love Machine’ and checking himself out in the mirror.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: It’s great to see Bruce Willis playing a comedy role and fitting in with the regular cast so easily.

Monica: Oh, that’s great!

3. The One With Ross’ Teeth (Season Six) – Ross gets a date with a girl he has had a crush on for ages, and in honour of the occasion, decides to whiten his teeth. Instead of removing the gel according to the instructions, he kept it on for an extra day. The result? Glow in the dark teeth that could probably be seen from space! He goes on the date, trying hard to keep his mouth shut but it all goes wrong when she turns out all of the lights except for a UV blacklight. Thinking he would be safe, Ross risks speaking, only to almost blind his date with his dazzling teeth!

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: There is nothing funnier than seeing Ross’ teeth glowing in the darkness!

Best quote of the episode – Chandler: Yeah, what was wrong with your old… human teeth?
Ross: Well, I did leave the gel on a little longer than it said to.
Monica: How much longer?

4. The One With The Poker (Season One) – The boys develop an obsession for playing Poker and the girls take offence when they aren’t invited to play. They enlist the help of Monica’s aunt to teach them the rules of the game, and eventually all six of them play together.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: It was one of the earlier episodes during which it became clear that the show was gaining popularity. The laughter from the audience was longer, louder and more enthusiastic than before.

5. The One With The Videotape (Season Eight) – Eager to prove whether it was Ross or Rachel who initiated their night together, Ross blurts out that he has the evening on videotape. When Rachel eventually calms down enough to listen to his reasons, she decides that they should watch the tape to find out the truth!

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: It showed the Friends at their best – all together and interacting in the way we all know and love.

6. The One With Phoebe’s Rats (Season Nine) – Mike finds a rat in Phoebe’s kitchen cupboard and sets up a trap to kill it. Phoebe, kind to all animals, tells him to take the traps away but it’s too late. They then find some rat babies. Phoebe decides that as she killed their mother, it is her responsibility to raise the rats, so she takes them to Rachel’s birthday party where one of them escapes.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: We get to see many sides of Phoebe. The crazy side, the sweet side and the downright hilarious side!

Best quote of the episode: Monica (on finding the rats in her apartment) So this is what a stroke feels like.

7.The One Where The Stripper Cries (Season Ten) – Rachel and Monica throw Phoebe an elegant bachelorette party, not knowing that she was expecting a stripper. In panic, they go through the phonebook and call the first one they find. When he shows up, he is a middle aged, short chubby man and when Phoebe is mean to him, it makes him cry. This episode also sees Joey appearing on a game show with Donny Osmond and a very young Ross, Chandler, Monica and Rachel at a college party.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: It was the last time we got to see the Friends in flashback mode, and it brings out some brand new revelations.

8. The One Where Everybody Finds Out (Season Five) – While checking out Ugly Naked Guy’s apartment with Rachel and Ross, Phoebe sees Monica and Chandler kissing across the street. Joey thinks it’s high time they went to Monica and Chandler and told them that they all know but Rachel and Phoebe have a different idea. When Phoebe begins flirting with Chandler to unsettle him, Monica realises it’s a setup and an interesting battle ensues!

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: The way the news about Monica and Chandler’s relationships came out was one of the funniest moments of television history!

9. The One Where Eddie Won’t Go (Season Two) – When Chandler catches his new room-mate Eddie watching him sleep, he tells him he has to move out. The bad news for Chandler is, the next day Eddie seems to have no memory of the conversation causing Chandler to take drastic measures to get him out.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: The character Eddie is, to this day, one of the most memorable guest characters in the show. This particular episode showed just how mad he truly was.

10. The One With The Football (Season Three) – At Thanksgiving, while the dinner is cooking, the Friends decide to go outside for a game of football. It is almost hampered when Ross and Monica confess that their parents banned them from playing after an incident occurred during a game when they were kids. Monica manages to persuade Ross to join in when she produces the “Geller Cup”. During the game, Chandler and Joey get distracted by a pretty Dutch girl.

This is one of the funniest episodes of Friends because: Thanksgiving episodes are always legendary, and this one had some excellent lines.
