Lynyrd Skynyrd, Southern Rock

The rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd rocketed to stardom in the 1970’s. This band’s unique style, Southern sound and foot stomping music is treasured by all Lynryd Skynyrd fans past and present. 4. The Needle And The Spoon. This song has a very important and life saving message to deliver and it is delivered with style, seriousness and grace. I fell in love with this song the very first time that I heard it and I never forgot it or the lesson it teaches. Not only does this song rock but, it delivers a cool anti drug message that is easy to take to heart and remember. Believe it or not, this song changed lives. For the better. I listened and I never ever did mess with a needle or a spoon, that is for sure. Many of my friends listened also. We were young when we heard this song and it taught us well. Kids tend to listen to the warnings of bands that they adore. A brilliantly worded, smart and cool song.

5. Saturday Night Special. “Well, handguns are made for killin’, they ain’t good for nothin’ else and if you like to drink your whiskey, you might even shoot yourself” are some famous lyrics from this fully loaded, gun safety message toting song. I tell you, the band Lynyrd Skynyrd educated many with their musical song messages. You can agree or disagree but, do take the time to enjoy this band, their opinions and this song. It sneaks up on you and rocks. It has humor and a great beat, unforgettable guitar playing and humor along with a serious side.

6. That Smell. This song is about that smell. You know the one. The smell of death all around you. From drugs, from stupidity, yeah, that is the smell that you don’t want to smell. The smell of death is to be avoided and this song is all about that. Clever and creative lyrics, excellent guitar and all sounds groovy and the lyrics are forewarning in this tune. A top 10 best Lynyrd Skynyrd songs choice, for certain. Remember, tomorrow might not be here for you if you smell that smell.

7. Gimme Back My Bullets. This is a cool and tough Southern rock song that forced it’s way into my heart. It has forever remained there. This song is about getting your life together. Gathering your ammo for another round of life, the right way. This is a great Lynyrd Skynyrd song and it leaves a mark. One of their greatest hits!

8. Searching. Now, this song is upbeat and hopeful. The search for love is an endless and tough journey for some, still they never stop searching. That beautiful dream and longing make this song one of my very favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. A wise man and the Lord above give their advice in this song. It is a special song that stands out.

9. I Never Dreamed. This song is lovely and very special, in my opinion. It is about falling in love and taking it for granted…then, one day, the person leaves. Now, you know. You know that they are the one and you never dreamed you would feel this way but, guess what? You do. Next comes asking them to forgive you, understand and come back. Sigh. You never dreamed that you already had the dream. In your arms. What a song. I love it.

10. Tuesday’s Gone. A sad song and yet, it is memorable and beautiful. You have to hear this song to appreciate the message, deep emotion and feeling. A southern flavored rock song that shoots an arrow deep into the heart of a music lover’s soul. Ah. And ow. Bravo!

Lynyrd Skynyrd was my oldest sister’s very favorite band. She is gone now, like many of the key band members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, that died in a tragic plane crash. My sister’s love of this band grew on me and I ended up loving them too. Lynyrd Skynyrd still carries on, to this day, with remaining band members that survived the plane crash, unbelievably, and new band members. Their strength and courage are a testimony to the fact that you can survive almost anything and go on.
